Hi everyone!

I'm starting up a Tau army and so far I have 12 Firewarriors, A Devilfish Transport and 2 XV-8 Crisis Battlesuits to start it off.

The idea is that I want to create an RRF army that can quickly deploy and redeploy across a battlefield and primarily work quickly in urban environments, this leaves little room for heavier weapon platforms though I would like some on standby if I needed them for particular battlefields.

However, where should I head next with my unit purchases?

Vespids with 14" move seem fluffy and useful 18" assault 2 s5 ap-2 t4 4+ guns.
piranhas have 16" move but may be to wide to meet the need.
If you are going to be danger close, breachers>firewarriors 1-10".

I agree with this post entirely. The stealth units, namely Ghostkeels and Stealth Suits, are some of the more useful units not called "Commander" or "Drone" in our index at the moment, and they fit your desired play style well. Also, Coldstar Commander. OMG Coldstar. There's not really anything in the game better at rapid redeployment, so that's basically an auto-include for you. Breachers also fit the close-range city fight theme pretty well. While they're not the strongest choice overall, they can really push some pain for the cost if you get them in close.

You will probably want to have Darkstrider in your list. He is kind of built for close fighting scenarios.

The current rumour is that we're likely to see a Tau codex within the next 2-3 months. That makes this both a really good and a really bad time to start collecting Tau.

We're all hoping for some pretty major changes to how the army works - but of course that will mean the army will work pretty differently to how it does now.

However, there'll be some things that will struggle not to be needed. Crisis suits, fire warriors and so on will probably play a part. You'll want a commander but I've got no idea what you'll want to equip him with. Today a Coldstar is a great option but if it still will be in February I cannot say.

The Christmas box set is worth getting. Just don't glue any guns on for now!

+1 to the Tau Battleforce. Had a game yesterday against a Ghostkeel w/ Stealthdrones and some Stealth Suits and that Ghostkeel was almost impossible to hit and kill. Would recommend for the durability and annoyance factor.
