Hey guys

I just picked up a box of State Troops to dip my toes into Age of Sigmar, and am looking for ideas for an alternative, easy paint scheme. All the studio schemes seem to be really bright, and I suck at batch painting, so am looking for something simple (and kind of darkish).

Any contributions would be much appreciated

I don't think the Empire really do "dark", but any mix of browns/drabs/cremes wouldn't look out of place.

You don't have to do super bright colours, you can easily darken any of them down to what you like. Easily justified due to the area not having the proper fabric available, or dirty from campaigns, etc.

Pick whatever scheme you want and run with it.

Here's an example of just mudding around with dark and earthy tones - some kitbashed henchmen from a dungeon crawl:

And some henchmen in a more brown tone:

Spoiler:

You really can't go wrong with drabs, browns, ochres, a couple colours of leather, etc.
