I played a friendly game with my primaris versus my friend's necrons (not either of our usual armies).

My army:

Using Codex unit costs, but no codex strategems, tactics, or relics as Necrons don't have a codex.

Gravis Captain
Primars Librarian
5 man Intercessor squad with Auxiliary Grenade Launcher
5 man Intercessor squad with Auxiliary Grenade Launcher
5 man Intercessor squad with Auxiliary Grenade Launcher
5 man Hellblaster Squad
Repulsor with cheap weapon loadout

His army:
Overlord
Roughly 20 Necron Warriors
Roughly 20 Necron Warriors
Doom Scythe (big gun floaty thing)
Trarche Stalker
8 bases of the little Scarab things.

We played tactical objectives, I can't recall the exact mission. The board was split shortways in the middle for deployment zones. I spread my intercessors out in some ruins, the hellblaster and two HQ were in the Repulsor, which was deployed on the left behind a building, which unfortunately didn't block LOS. No LOS blocking terrain was really available to protect the Repulsor, and I was honestly unfamiliar with the Doom Scythe's killer gun.

His Necrons were spread out all the way in the back for the most part. One squad in the center with some ruins, the triarch stalker on his left, the doom scythe on the right.
He got Turn 1.
Turn 1:
Necrons: One squad of Necrons and the Overlord moved up on his right flight. Doom Scythe blew the craaaap out the repulsor doing 10 wounds. Ouch. Triarch stalker moved up. Shot at some intercessors for no damage.
Space Marines: Librarian hopped out, moved up on foot. Hellblaster hopped out, climbed into some ruins. Gravis Captain joined them. One squaqd of intercessors on my right flank moved up and gained an objective and some ruins. They buckled down. Hellblasters shot at some of the scarabs. the doom scythe was still out of range. My intercessors all plinked a couple wounds off the Triarch Stalker and a few wounds off the scarabs, and hid in their ruins, camping two objectives. Captain plinked at some scarabs with his pistol fist. Repulsormoved up and mostly wiffed but took a few wounds off the scarabs and one wound off the doom scythe.
Turn 2:
Necrons: The necron warriors moved up, shot at the hellblasters, did no damage. Doom scythe smashed the repulsor down to 1 wound. Stalker charged an intercessor squad. The surviving scarabs charged the hellblasters and the captain. One unit was exterminated by some sharp hellblaster overwatch fire. The second squad made it in to combat. Combat went very poorly for the scarabs, they did 1 wound to a hellblaster and were completely exteriminated. Hellblasters consolidated forward 3", Captain didn't get an opportunity to consolidate. Intercessors and the stalker slapped each other for the loss of one marine and the loss of a couple wounds on the stalker.
Space Marines: Hellblaster and Captain moved up towards the Necron warriors (and eventually the doom scythe). Librarian buffed the Captain with Might of Heroes, the Hellblasters with Veil of Time. The intercessors fighting the Triarch fell back so the other intercessors could shoot at it. They stripped a couple wounds, but it wasn't very successful. Hellblasters and Captain pounded the hell out of the Necron Warriors, cutting down about half of them. The Repulsor killed one, and got one wound on the doom scythe. It was completely crippled by this point. The captain charged necrons, and took no wounds from overwatch. The hellblasters then charged in as well. Between the two units the necrons were completely wiped out. Both units consolidated towards the Doom Scythe and overlord, but couldn't get into combat. But first blood to Marines.
Turn 3:
Necrons: The doom scythe held position and finished off the repulosor, then opened up with its gun array (which I didn't realize it had) on my hellblasters. The necron warriors on the other side did the same, hellblasters got wiped out. The overlord had fallen back towards his other warriors. The stalker shot my intercessors and charged them again, and the slapfest continued. I think I lost one more intercessor.
Space Marines: The Gravis Captain shouted "for the emperor" and moved up towards the doom scythe. The librarian advanced but was still about 14" behind him. Librarian got off Might of Heroes, although I had to spend a CP to avoid a box cars. Smite failed. The other intercessors moved out of their deployment and moved up towards the stalker, with the intent of charging. Gravis Captain charged the doom scythe, and beat the tar out of it with his power fist. Took it down to about half health. The intercessors all beat up on the stalker a bit, but it was mostly a slap fest. Stalker was steadily running out of wounds though.
Turn 4:
By this point the Marines had scored a couple objective cards, and got first blood. The necrons had gotten one defend objective, so objectives were tied, but I had cards to score at the end of my turn if I needed by redploying my intercessors. I chose to pursue the stalker instead gambling on getting the extra points on turn 5.
Necrons: Doom scythe fell back, and fired on the captain along with the necron warriors, but the Captain only took two wounds from the entire ordeal. Dude is a BEAST. Stalker killed one marine.
Space Marines:
Captain moved up, and charged the doom scythe again. As I recall he took another wound from overwatch. Librarian charged forwards trying to help. More intercessors moved up to charge the stalker. Captain proceeded to obliterate the scythe in the fight phase, and consolidated into the warriors, who put a wound on him. The stalker went down to marines slapping it at last. Didn't explode.
Turn 5:
Necrons: Things were looking very poor for the necrons, but they piled in on the gravis captain chasing "kill the warlord." His overlord charged around the captain's flank and hit him in the back. Combat went poorly. The overlord did a couple wounds, as did the necrons, but the captain survived (on 1 or 2 wounds at this point), and then smashed the overlord to death with his powerfist in a single round of combat.
Space Marines: Intercessors moved forwards, but couldn't do anything. one unit fell back towards an objective but couldn't quite get there. Captain killed one necron with his bolt pistol fist. Librarian charged into combat. Librarian killed more necron warriors, captain killed a few, then the necrons killed the captain at last.
Turn 6:
Necrons: Necron warriors failed to hurt the librarian, who finished off the last of the warriors.

I believe the end score was Space Marines 5, Necrons 3, but necrons were tabled. Surviving space marines were the Librarian with a couple wounds left, two half squads of intercessors, and one full squad.

Quick Analysis:

I brought the Repulsor only because I just got it together and base coated and it looked cool. He brought all the necrons he had, which was his army was rather basic. I didn't know ahead of time he was bringing the necrons, and I had never played them before so I didn't know what to expect. The doom scythe crushing my repulsor on turn 1 was pretty disheartening for me, but my Gravis Captain butchering his way through my friend's entire army was equally stunning. That dude is a BEAST, especialy with the +1 attack on charge warlord trait, and Might of Heroes. The Hellblasters did great, even though I used them wrong. Had I switched them with one of the intercessors the stalker would have been wrecked much sooner freeing up that right flank. His necron ressurectyion ability got very little use, as I completely annilated one squad in one turn, and by the time I was fighting the other squad it wasn't really that impactful. He was very disappointed in his lord's showing against my gravis captain.

Anyway, I know its missing pictures and the armies weren't tournament quality, but I had fun so I thought I'd make a quick post about it.

Thanks for a post about a fun game. These are sometimes the best games. A few comments as I play SM and my son does Necron.

First off, I think you mean a Doomsday Ark. The Doom Scythe is a flyer while the Ark has a Doomsday cannon that does massive range and damage. Wish I had one.

Your friend should look at getting some Immortals next. Those with Tesla Carbines can put a hurt on things. 3 hits instead of 1 when you roll a 6.

Overall sounds like a good game. Nice of you not to use features that the codex less don't have. I think it would be more of a slaughter otherwise.

Thanks,
Duncan

Yeah you’re right, that’s what it was. That thing really shredded my tank. He got some good dice rolls though. And yeah, I think it’s only fair if one has a codex and the other doesn’t. If I play his necrons again (he’s normally a dark angels player) I will bring some incptors. Primaris are really lacking long range weaponry, especially antitank.
