Are there any fluff instances where an Inquisitor worked with a contingent of mechanicus to explore some xeno/archeo tech? I'm creating an army right now and would just like some fluff validation for my inquisitors retinue.

While not specifically the scenario you decribe, the AdMech and the Inquisition do have a fluff history of working together. A Prime example I can think of is Inquisitor Eisenhorn and his AdMech Comrade.

does he work with more than just the tech priest? like a contingent of servitors, maybe a few bots ready for war?

No, he meets with the Priest only. You dont need to be so hung up on whether or not it happened in the fluff (and I am pretty sure it has happened in the fluff, be it a book or one of FFG's splat books). If you want to run Inquisition with AdMech then run them together. The simple fact that you can be a Tech Priest in a Inquisitor's retinue shows they work together for common goals.

The Cain series has a couple of books heavily involved with a secret combined Inquisition/AdMech facility. It's purpose is indeed to research a dangerous and unknown bit of xenon kit.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I once played a Dark Heresy campaign where we were an Inquisitor's Throne Agents sent along to a planet for a "mysterious objective."

Once we arrived and the secret orders were opened, we realized that a Mechanicus dome-facility on the surface was built over some bizarre artefact, the creator of which was either Chaos or Xenos, or perhaps both (chaos-worsipping xenos).

We met with the Ordo Xenos contingent that had been sent (we were Hereticus), and the Archmagos in charge of the excavation - they had called in the Inquisition because they were about to completely unearth the artefact and free it from its stone prison, and wanted other Imperial agencies on hand for political protection for the discovering Archmagos. I suppose he thought "it can't be heresy if the Inquisition helps it along!" or something.

Anyways, long story short, we ended up fighting alongside the Ordo Xenos representatives and the Magos's Skitarii and Praetorian Servitor (the old untrademarkable name for Kataphrons) bodyguard against the bad guys that showed up.

In fact, as the Archmagos and us were rushed to orbit with the artefact in tow, the Skitarii and Praetorian Servitors fought to the last man. We discovered later that the Archmagos had overridden their self-preservation protocols and commanded them to defend him at all costs.

The best part of it all was the whole campaign arc was designed to introduce a new character and player to the group: A Tech-Priest with the Auxilia Myrmidon career path option. It was epic.
