Has anyone done this. I found this old thread on LO. I was wondering how it compares size wise to the Forge World Model.

Also, as far as basing goes, Rather than putting it on a record, I was thinking of using 60mm round bases for each of the legs or something. That way units can still move underneath it. Would this be legal? Or, if I do use a big base, can you move your own models onto another models base, like in this case, put termiegants underneath it. Not trying to cheat or anything, as it would only be used in Apoc/narrative games, but just wondering what the ruling would be.

One benefit I see if I use 4 separate bases be that It could potentially actually stand over some terrain. Thoughts?

Yeah I’m pretty sure if the base is big enough you can move smaller bases over it (as long as there is room). Otherwise you block of half the table with this huge scenic base!

That, and I feel Titans should be able to step over terrain. If I have to move that bad boy i gotta find a 12" circle without any terrain to lay it flat.

While the hierophant has no rule excluding a base (Like some other units do), it also doesn't come with one, there is no standard for how it's base should function and technically you should be measuring and doing everything from it's "hull". The less intrustive it's base is the better able it is to function within the game.

If at all possible, don't use a base at all. Difficult with the real thing. Not crazy hard if your building it from plastic.

yeah, but im still concerned about the weight. I was thinking of snipping the tips of the Talons about a half inch down and making them look like they are stabbing into the ground. Seems more realistic to me than this giant beast tip toeing around. I could probably get them onto 40mm bases.

If your doing the full plastic conversion one you linked to there is no worry about the weight. It will weigh significantly less than the resin one AND be built of much stronger materials.

So the plastic conversion wouldnt need it. I promise.

Ive done two of the real Hierophants, one where I pinned the legs internally so it could support that massive weight. The other I did with a flying base into its chest with a clear rod. If I can find some pics Ill post it, it made moving it a LOT easier/safer than any some big gigantic base would be.

EDIT: Yea this, a few years old and probably not the way Id do it now, but should give you the idea. I still dont think it support and it looks way cooler without any.

How are they to work with? Much cleaning up/greenstuff work? Planning on getting one in the future

You don't need to run faster than the monsters, only faster than your friends...

fething horrible. There are like... 2 dozen little spikes plus a bunch of other crap that needs to be attached all over the body.

Pretty much that, the spikes are obnoxious and the harpoon things that are supposed to come out of her chest are just long, easy to snag pieces of resin that snap in a heartbeat. The Vents/crests on top are guaranteed to have gaps, and that sucks because the carapace is so wonderfully
textured.

And yet its one of the coolest looking models ever. Its just too big, if they shrunk it down ~15-20% it would be so much more manageable and playable.

Hadn't even noticed the harpoon things before - they really don't look that good :/
So lots of fiddly and difficult to place extras, and some cleaning up of the vents. Anything else major? That doesn't actually sound that bad (except obviously the problem with the flimsy legs )

Yeah for the harpoons i was just going to roll greenstuff and use some extra spikes bits on the end.

From what i have read, I have found a few more people who have done this conversion and everyone seems to really like it.
The only thing that bugs me is how the back chest piece ribs push perpendicular into the middle ones. It doesn't look too bad,but i think if it could be all one direction it would give it the appearance of a single large chest rather than segmented.

Well I haven't did this before, but I am really considering trying this out. I think I might be able to improve on the one at the link you posted. Check out my Queen Alien Tervigon for some of my green stuff work!
https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-14732-22129_Tervigon.html

I know the guy who made it said it was smaller, but from I have seen it isn't that much smaller and if it is, it isn't going to matter much because it is still pretty big.

As for the base, the forgeworld model looks like it might come with a square base. If you did a base, you could use something like I did with my custom Tyranid Cerebore:

https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-14732-12058_Tyranid%20Cerebore.html

I basically bought a round piece of wood from Hobby Lobby and used it as a base. If you didn't use a base it might look better on the table but how would you do base to base contact? There isn't much to push you bases up to when it is just the claw.

Wow! nice work. I am slowly honing my greenstuff skills.

As far as the bases, that is why i would put like 50mm bases on the feet areas. I don't know, i might do the big wooden base like you described as well. I actually really enjoy doing basing, and I would probably put a mini diorama underneath him. Maybe a destroyed dreadnought, or some infestation nodes, or digestive pools or something.
