I want to add shields and sheathed swords to my Dark Angels that I am going to be putting together in the near future. Ideally I would like shields that have different iconography on them for each squad of marines but begger and choosers and all that. The ironography does need to be Dark Angel appropriate though, so no crosses (Templars have that one) or anything else that is to much like one of the other chapters.

I also want to find some sheathed swords to add to my squads to look more like a backup/decorative weapon. And finally for my non heavy weapon wielding marines in Devastator squads I want to give them spears and larger shields the like you would find in use on a shield wall.

I built a DA army like this ages ago but that was during the time when you could buy metal bits from GW, my army was rocking shields and swords from the old Empire kits. Now I need a new source that won't cost me $10 a shield, which likely means 3rd party casters.

I did some quick searching on Ebay but did not see a whole lot so I am hoping that the community at large here may be able to help out with some suggestions or point me towards a company that might work.

DA Devs can take shields and spears?

And i dont think normal tacticals can take shields of any kind...(?)

But options wise.

why not jack the shields off the terminators.

your knights have cool ones and so do the veteran upgrade kit. as well it has a unique combat shield as well.

as for spears you could jack some from storm casts as they are wide and kinda look like dark angel stuff.

Sheathed swords are a bit that are hard to find.

sternguard has one. other wise i think stormcast also has them.

shape ways may have some in the style you need though.

It's all fluffy, no game effect at all. The DA are supposed to be an order of knights so I like the look of shields and swords for them. That's also why I don't want to use the existing storm shields from DA models because I don't want confusion on the game table about who has what. Smaller shields that are sized for a normal human is more what I am looking for.

The non heavy weapon wielding marines in a Dev squad always struck me as basically useless other than protecting the heavy weapons so I always though why not give them large shields to protect them and then you would want weapons that would work well with that so, spears. That's a lot less true now that every model can fire at different targets but after 6 editions of it not being the case it's hard to think otherwise.

Shapeways is a good idea, I'll pop over and try some searches but if anyone knows a seller that may be selling stuff that fits what I am looking for let me know please. Searching Shapeways can be painful...

Alternative option is to put the shield bit on the shoulder pad.

The Betrayal at Calth marines come with loads of sheathed swords/knives.
Should be easy to pick those up cheap as not everybody models all of the gubbins onto their marines.

Oh derp how did i forget about that.

yeah tons of combat blades in sheaths on the mk4 kit and it should be a relatively inexpensive bit.

Alex, you are my hero, was having a hell of a time finding the swords, first search on Ebay for Betray at Calth bits returned the swords.
