Question for everyone. So I'm making a list for Tau and have two squads of Stealth Suits in it. I was reading in the Index: Xenos 2 book under the Stealth Suits abilities that it lists Target Lock for the Stealth Suit. So if I'm reading this right, they come with Target Lock already and then any model in the unit can add one other Support System upgrade for that point cost. I'm asking this since when I was making my list on Battle Scribe, to have Target Lock you have to spend points for something that is already one of their abilities, so I'm trying to figure out which is right, the Index book or Battle Scribe.

Thanks for any clarification.

Just because the rule is on the datasheet doesn't mean it automatically applies to all models in the unit. The rule even states the model must have a target lock to benefit.

Basically, all the models have the "Target Lock" rule, but it doesn't do anything unless you take the Target Lock support system because the rule says "A model with a target lock..."

Even if it was just an ability, you'd still have to pay the points for it due to the Combat Shield/Eldar ForceShield thing FAQ.

To use another example, Space Marine Scouts have a rule called "Camo Cloaks" which says "If every model in a unit has a camo cloak...".

Obviously this rule does nothing if the models don't pay for the cloaks, but it's still there, same as the Target Lock rule above.

Since the Shas’vre has the option of taking target lock as part of the data sheet, GW just added what a target lock does to the data sheet.

Shas’ui can have it to, as part of the Support Systems.

It is still an optional piece of wargear and you pay for that separately, just like the weapon options.

I see what you mean BaconCatBug, I didn't think about the Space Marine Scouts and camo cloaks,

I think its just a bit confusing listing one of the Support Systems that you have to buy under their abilities, that should be for anything they get automatically, if you have to add anything, it should be listed on a separate chart, like they have all the support systems listed.

That makes sense now, I appreciate that.

Also... the official GW source is always correct. Battlescribe is frequently wrong. The core issue here is that GW has made it unnecessarily complex to build an army using points.

From the 'Wargear Options' section of the datasheet in question:

The Shas’vre may take a markerlight and target lock.

It's listed under Abilities so it has it's rules on the datasheet, but it's clearly not free.

But they can take other support systems as well, so why not list those abilities on the data sheet as well. Why just Target Lock listed, that is why its so confusing, no other data sheet has Target lock listed on there, but some can obviously have it as system support option for points.

Kriswall, you are right, Battle Scribe isn't accurate all the time.

That's why they had to put the Eldar Forceshield thing in a FAQ (as BCB pointed out) - they definitely did make it confusing.

I'm sure when they get the codex out, it will be fixed, hopefully.

In my opinion, it's because it's an option on the datasheet and not a wargear list.

I think GW should have the Abilities section, everything that they come with, then make a Add-on section that lists what they can buy with points for that unit or individual, would make it less confusing, in my opinion. They can then either list the rule there in the datasheet or have a list of rules at the end of the codex/index where the rule can be found.

I thank everyone for clarifying the rules, I got my list made, just had to adjust a bit.

When a model can upgrade to a Plasma Gun, the Plasma Gun's rules are typically included on the datatsheet.

When a model can upgrade to weapons on the ranged weapons list, and the ranged weapons list includes Plasma Gun, the Plasma Gun's rules are not typically included on the datasheet.

Storm Shield the same way.

It is the awkward writing system they used through out the index data slates.

The optional wargear section has "target lock" named in it, so who ever was doing the data slate added what target lock does.
