Just got my Forge World spear Avatar and I'm determined to get that beauty on the tabletop. Just wondering what other people's ideas are for a good shell list for him. Not too many eldar units want to be charging in, besides wraithblades, banshees, and probably shining spears. Are these the units that also jump out to you? Just looking for some ideas.

Don't overlook his ability to make big infantry blobs immune to Morale. Big squads of Defenders are one option but 2-3 Squads of Avengers accompanied by Asurmen for the free 5++ is not bad either.

To be honest, I am not sure the Avatar is worth his points for what he brings but if you want to run him, those options are open to you.

For games with friends at my house I'm definitely fielding the non-competitive, yet beloved models - the avatar for one, and sadly now, my freshly commissioned shadow spectres =(

I've been running my Avatar in my Ulthwe army and loving him. Primarily he's running alongside two big banshee units and one big 24-man unit of storm guardians. My footdar list brings the entire runes of battle discipline - five spiritseers and a hemlock - and one farseer for the good powers from Runes of Fate, so there's plenty of psychic support to buff up the big boy if I want to.

Basically, the way it goes is the enemy either focuses my Storms, in which case my specialists pick him apart, or he focuses the specialists and the storms hit the enemy lines with 3-4 psychic powers popped on them, Supreme Disdain, and Discipline of the Black Guardians and they hit on 2s, score doublehits on 4+, and wound almost all targets smaller than tanks on 4s.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Great info. I am half way finished painting my big squad of Storm Guardians and glad to see someone else having fun with crazy combos for them.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
