Hey everyone, I have been experimenting with units in the sm codex and I want to know if you guys think that the stormraven is still viable. I plan to use them as infantry killers since the tournament meta right now is hordes.

I think they are at a pretty balanced spot right now. They aren't auto includes but they aren't units you dismiss completely. They serve their purpose and do it well for the point cost. If you think you would use them to their full potential, you won't be hindering yourself.

Viable? Probably. Outclassed by the Fire Raptor, though.

I think this is a good thing. A dedicated fire support unit should be better at fire support than a transport/fire support unit for the price. If you want to transport models and want some firepower with it, the Stormraven is obviously the better choice of the two. If you are looking at just firepower, Fireraptors are superb right now, especially with the recent points decrease.

I'm a Chaos player and honestly forgot that the stormraven even has a transport capacity, lol. The Fire Raptor is almost certainly undercosted post-CA, if any variety of marine is at the top tables at LVO you can expect at least two Fire Raptors in their list.

Stormravens are still very good units. They points increase they got in CA simply means they are not auto includes like they once were. They're still very beefy and tanky while dishing out a ton of hurt, its just that now the cost actually matches the performance. If you do decide to bring Stormravens, make sure to bring more than one, or at least bring one with several other big scary toys, cause it will get targeted and focused down quickly. I don't think it has too much of a place in top tier tournament lists anymore, but unless you plan on making the top table at LVO it is a very solid unit that certainly can have a place in your lists.

They are still very powerful. And in a meta dominated by hordes they're basically mandatory and among the most effective units in the game.

They are okay now but not mandatory. Being a transport as well is always a nice bonus.

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough. |

How do the SW equilants measure up? Both the transport and the gunship.
With many egs inn one basket i think the transport sounds risky.

Sales of the stormtaven have peaked.
When fireraptor sales have peaked, they will get hit with "balance adjustments" that you will have to pay for.

Unless FW is allowed stormravens really are very solid. No fireraptors in my area.

They are very fragile at 14 w 3+ armor. Lots of configurations encorage getting close, which is fatal for this thing.

Did the index space wolf flyer get nerfed too? It was already leaps and bounds better than the storm raven for less anyways lol.

still good, especially when using the transport capacity. the issue was they were so good without ever even using as a transport. no longer worth it as a gunship alone... but once you drop that Dred and the units inside way behind enemy lines... def worth it.

The gunship became a bit more expensive, but the stormwolf, which was superior even before CA, didn't change from the index. I agree that it's weaker than the stormraven but since it's still more than decent, the SM flyer is really competitive.
