I want to preface this by saying I heard this from my FLGS owner. I have searched online but found nothing. I do not want to start a panic. I MAY BE WRONG.


So I was at my FLGS this weekend and asked when he was going to get more Vallejo paints in stock. He said he wasn't sure because the Vallajo was "ending". Apparently the 2 owners (brothers) got into a fight, one bought out the other and then sold it off or rebranded it as AK paints. Is this AK Interactive? He wasn't sure. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Yeah, not buying this.

For starters, a change in company ownership would have been disclosed to the public. Second, AK has already been around for years. The contentious breakup that your FLGS owner appears to be confused about happened between AK Interactive and Mig Jimenez several years ago - Mig then left to form another company, AMMO.

And if we're going off what FLGS guys say, I'm the hobby supplies guy at mine. I just received a Vallejo restock on Saturday, and my distributor tells me that another container arrived from Spain on Dec. 22nd.

I don't think they are ending but sadly where I use to buy my Vallejo paint they no longer buy it because it's not "worth" it for them to do so. I can't remember if it is just red tape headache or the prices they are asking or both.

I don't see anyone else carrying the product. Not sure if the store an hour away from me carries them or not anymore either. Just wish it was easier to buy for me.

Yeah. It just seemed odd to me. Maybe they are going to stop selling Vallejo. I need to tell him he better recheck his sources bc i need my Vallejo colors.

Vallejo may not be ending but considering that model paint is not their only line of business they could be winding things up or scaling down or it could be to do with raw material supplies and production being put back (polymer prices have gotten more expensive year on year and harder to source)

Hopefully it won’t be the end of them as there needs to be some sort of competition to Citadel paints (hopefully I can join those ranks...) to keep prices competitive.

However, as with all businesses, they all have their ups and downs.

Mig Jimenez and Fernando Vallejo fell out over AK Interactive 3 years ago.

This is, by the sounds of it, shopkeeper bs.

They just released the Vallejo Mecha Color paints in August, I don't see them getting out of the model paint business anytime soon.

I actually talked to my local flag store owner about this a few days ago. I asked why they hadn't stocked up on it in a while because i needed more black for my tanks. According to him the company is dissolving and one of the owners is rolling the line into something called "AK paints" (i think). I couldn't find anything online so didn't think anything about it. That being said where do you live, i heard about this in the DFW area

If there is one thing I've learned over the years...it's that the only person less-informed than the average internet forum user, is the local FLGS owner.

Well a rebranding exercise to homogenize the various Vallejo sub divisions under one name is a lot more plausible, I'd be a little surprised if the AK name was taken over what would appear to be the more recognizable Vallejo one, but there's all sorts of reasons that could explain that.

P3 is also highly useable, just FYI. I watch Epic Duck (Mike Cousins) on Twitch and he likes it a lot as well.

I suspect, depending where you are in Canada of course, Vallejo maybe tougher to get because for one thing it apparently can freeze during shipment :( Epic Duck's talked about this before.

I doubt it's prices per se because honestly Vallejo is one of the cheaper brands on the market (Granted I dunno the Canadian market) - a good bit cheaper than most other brands I've seen.

Anyway, RE: Vallejo ending, yeah as others have stated, I highly doubt it. It's a very well recognized brand (hence I don't see why they'd want to change the name of even a subsidary line) - it does sound like a simple case of confusion.

Just my two cents for what's it's worth not that I've heard squat one way or t'other.

I can vouch for this. I don't mail order any paints from the end of November to mid-April-ish for fear of them freezing, which does bad things to polymers. And I"m not a FLGS who has to worry about re-selling those paints.

I live in Southern Ontario. So I don't believe the freezing will be any problem. No more than Western New York and the area there.

P3. That is Privateer Press paint correct? I have those and like them as well.

Yes, it was. We must have gotten the same info from the same guy haha. This is reassuring as everywhere else I've checked I can't find anything about them closing.

Yeah. I guess so. I need me some Sepia wash, and dont want to pay $6 for it on amazon.
