I tested stripping 2 models in CLR.
Paint came off the metal one just fine but didnt do a whole lot to the plastic one other than melt the glue in the joints and make the paint all gummy but still stuck on the model. Plastic one went in the trash

Metal one however turned a dark grey after a night soaking rather than the normal bright shiny silver.
1. What chemical reaction happened here and should it be a concern?
2. Can I use something else to get the dark grey off? Only thing so far thats worked is some heavy scrubbing with a toothbrush but that's just the raised areas. Handling the model leaves grey streaks on my hands
3. Just chuck the model?

Cant find much on google talking about CLR + pewter

CLR IIRC is an acid.

so you probably oxidized the surface.

which in turn allowed the paint to come off.
