Subject: looking to replace old Citadel inks

Hi all,
out of a bout of nostalgia I’ve decided to repaint my teenage years minis only to find out that two key components (Citadel Red Ink and Green Ink, I guess that’s what they were called) have long been discontinued :( I’m talking about the screwtop pots from the late 90s – early 2000s (the ones everybody wholeheartedly loathed and despised). I know that the old inks have been replaced by washes, but what I’m after here is that glossy finish which was peculiar to the old inks and seems to be missing in modern day washes. I’ve also tried Vallejo’s red ink but to no avail, it’s fairly opaque. I’ve read that the old Citadel range is still being produced by Coat d’Arms, but I’d need someone to confirm that they’re exactly the same thing (i.e. with the glossy finish) before I place a mail order.
As an alternative, would you happen to know any similar products I could find at an art supply store?
Thank You

Ask Supershandy. He's currently in the process of replicating old GW paints. The project is called Instar paints. I don't know if he managed to copy those specific paints yet, but if you have old pots of those paints just send them to him and he'll replicate them.

Thanks for the plug
In respect to Inks, we are planning to do our own washes and inks at a better quality than GW at a much lower cost. As Power Elephant mentioned, we accept old paints dried or liquid so we can replicate them, with the really old paints, we can even get that glossy finish that you mentioned.
We have some old inks in our collection that we plan to replicate from the mid-late 90’s era but we are struggling to get anything pre 90’s at the moment.
Once the paint is launched, we will begin to look at producing washes and inks.

This is great news! I absolutely love the old Red Ink from GW. I'm down to my last half pot.

I'm following you on fb, hope you get it done! though it looks like most people dislike glossy inks lol

You might want to look at the Secret Weapon washes.

Each of them have a very strong hue and can replicate a lot of the effects you used to get with GW inks. Might be worth buying a bottle of Red Black to see what you can do with it.

You can try artists acrylic inks from companies like Liquitex and Daler Rowney. I've been meaning to try them myself but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I'd love something to replace GW's old Brown Ink.
