Just got back into 40k after a 12yr break and looking to reboot my first collected army of Blood Angels.

Really looking for feedback on how competitive this might be, but also how it might be viewed if I turned up to a casual event with it.

Fluff: Death Company army led by Lemartes and a Lib Dread who is there to calm everyone down. The Lib Dread and even the Stormravens would be painted mostly black to match the DC theme.

Focus: Alpha Strike (I think? Not 100% sure what Alpha Strike means).
Total Points: 1999

[Air Wing Detachment] 988pts
Stormraven - Twin Las / Twin HB / 2x SS Missiles / 2x Hurricane Bolters - 321pts
Stormraven - Twin Assault Cannon / Twin MM / 2x SS Missiles / 2x Hurricane Bolters - 352pts
Stormraven - Twin Assault Cannon / Twin HB / 2x SS Missiles / 2x Hurricane Bolters - 315pts

[Vanguard Detachment] 1011pts
HQ
Lemartes - 129pts
- Warlord: Soulwarden (deny the witch)
Librarian Dread - Furioso Fist / Furioso Force Halberd / Meltagun - 187pts
- Relic: Veritas Vitae (regain spent CP on a 5+)
- Psychic: Wings of Sanguinius + Quickening

Elites
Death Company x15 - 3x Thunder Hammers / 1x Power Sword - 352pts
DC Dread - 2x Furioso Fists / Storm Bolter / Meltagun / Magna-grapple - 164pts
DC Dread - 2x Furioso Fists / Heavy Flamer / Meltagun / Magna-grapple - 179pts

Deployment: Everything is deployed on the board. All 3 Dreads are in the Stormravens.

Rough idea is that everything is in CC on turn 2 latest.

Plan for DC
If I have first turn then: DC use Forlorn Fury to move up (2 CP) then re-roll their charge with Lemartes.
If I don't get first turn,: DC use Decent of Angels instead of Forlorn Fury (don't want them shot up before I use them!) to give them 3D6 charge and hope that's enough for a charge on my turn 1.

Plan for everything else:
Libby Dread hops out of the Stormraven and moves 6". Then casts Wings of Sanguinius to move 12", gain FLY and re-roll charges. Casts Quickening to give +3" to charge and +D3 attacks. Charge will be 4-16", averaging 10 with a re-roll as backup. Total average distance on turn 1 = 28". Hopefully this is enough to get him into combat along with the DC.

3 Stormravens move up using Supersonic, ready to deploy remaining 2x DC Dreads on turn 2. DC Dreads after disembark (on my turn 2) have 8" move plus charge so average 15" (+2" if charging a vehicle with the magna-grapples).

From then on, DC Dreads re-roll hits and 6" consolidation to keep in combat, DC re-roll hits, and Red Thirst means they're wounding on 4+ minimum on the charge, with the 3x Thunder Hammers wounding almost everything on a 2+ on the charge. Lib Dread has 3+D3 CC attacks at S10/12 AP-4/-3 D3.

Stormravens just fly around pumping rounds into everything not in CC and can nip over to claim the odd objective if it's worth it.

Really looking for all sorts of feedback here - is this competitive? What types of games will I struggle in? (worried about lack of models to claim objectives mainly)

Also, what type of armies would this list be vulnerable to and would people mind if I brought this type of list to a casual game?

More feedback the better please!! This is my first list in more than a decade so will definitely be able to improve I'm sure. .

Well, three Stormravens are a bit overkill.
You need anti-tank such as lascannons. In the new meta you will see a lot of tanks, say LRBTs with T8, and monsters.

Three ravens is expensive and fragile. And can't hold objectives.

I would be starting Lemartes and the death company in reserve every time, you don't know if you have first turn until after deployment so it's the safest option. You actually have good anti tank in the dreads and the hammers, it's just going to be difficult to get them into combat. On the plus side most tanks lack the ability to fall back and shoot in the same turn so locking them in combat is actually a really good tactic if you can make it work. Stormravens usually get toasted on the first turn in most cases, so running three of them will give you some redundancy at least.

Your list looks like it will be a lot of fun, though it won't be super competitive with the current trend of dark reaper spam.

I'd suggest that you take unleash rage over quickening, because you can use it to buff the death company and make them go extra berserk.

Actually I would probably drop the dreadnought altogether and take Mephiston instead he's got better damage output, is harder to kill, an deny twice and knows three powers so you can take all three powers. He's also about 40 points cheaper than the dread. Now you have points to throw in a couple mor hammers in the dc squad. 15/20 thunder hammer attacks re-rolling misses with +1 to wound rolls... Did someone say anti tank? That squad should mince just about anything it runs into.

Another thing to remember is that Lemartes allows the death company dreadnoughts to reroll charges too.

You don't have to bring the death company down on the first turn, wait until you have a worthy target. Use the ravens to clear screens and soften up heavier targets ready for everything to charge on turn 2.

Thanks for your advice! You're probably right deepstriking them is likely safer and with Lemartes re-roll charge instead of forlorn fury can just use the 3D6 charge strategem for the same CP anyway - good idea.

Yea will be tricky with the dreads into combat, as the Stormraven's will have to weather potentially up to 2 turns of fire before I can drop them off. Would plan to deploy SR's at back edge of board and then use the 50" move on my turn 1, then they would target any any-tank units to reduce chance of getting destroyed so I can drop the dreads my turn 2. Although even if they did the dreads would probably get in esp. if they were near lemartes as you pointed out.

Like your idea about Mephiston, just think the Lib Dread is so cool! WIll have to test play I think.

As is, seems like your list is a decent one. Yea, got a lot of points tied up in Stormravens, but it's not like those can't put some serious hurt on the other guy. Sure, you'll likely have some problems if you run into Eldar geared to deal with vehicles(Dark Reapers), or even infantry(Dark Reapers, again), but that is true of any mech heavy army.

What strikes me most is that you've got almost half your points in units that won't really benefit from the very awesome traits that make the Blood Angles so awesome. Two of the best HQ units in the Imperium, Dante and Mephiston, and you don't use either, nor the Sanguinary Priests which add 1S to all your infantry in range, which is huge since that makes them chew up orks and other T4 way better. Also they have Melta pistols which I think for 9pts is the most insanely efficient death dealing tool in the Imperium arsenal. Really makes me wonder why Mephiston doesn't upgrade his plasma pistol but whatever.

Anyways, I'm rambling. I think it will be interesting to hear how it does. Good luck!
