Just getting back into the game. Mind you I have probably less then 15 games under my belt since getting into warhammer so all the help I can get would be appreciated! Looking to build a fun yet still solid list for both casual games and possibly tournaments one day
This is what I have come up with so far. Planning on running anrakyr with the telsla immortals and the walker with the Gauss ones for support. Then the Cryptek with the warriors.

As a Necron player myself, may I ask what models you have? Are you looking to play friendly games and "bring what you like, have fun" or do you want to dust off your Gauss Flayer and try the competitive scene?

Your list is fine for friendly games but will struggle in a competitive game or seasoned player.

Thanks! I have what’s listed as well as 9 scarab bases, 5 lychguard with warsythes, and another 10-12 Warriors. Looking to do both competitive and for fun. Definitely want to get a competitive list figured out so I can pick up what I need and work on it. What would you suggest?

For competitive play you defiantly want Forge World units. Sorry to say but Necrons are currently the worst preforming army in the ITC circuit. This is due to how Reanimation Protocols works, lack of "reliable' fire power and our unit costs.

-Reanimation Protocols-
RP now works that any model you lose can be Rp'd even if it died turn 1 it could come back on turn 2,3,4 etc issue is is that if we lose models through Morale then that model cannot be RP'd back into its unit and when a unit with RP is totally wiped e.g. 20 warriors go to 0. Then you can not RP for that unit any more as RP only works as long as the unit is on the table. This makes units like Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers and Lychguard a very expensive risk due to how much they cost per model and how easily they can be killed e.g. 3 Heavy destroyers is 225pts but is easily killed if focus fired and caught in melee.

To get the most out of RP you will wan max size units or nearly maxed out. Necrons warriors can actually hinder themselfs if they go above 16 models in a unit as you run a risk of losing a few through morale which sucks.Our best RP units are Warriors (between 12-20 and if your willing to spend Cp's to pass morale), Immortals(unit of 10), Deathmarks(unit of 8-10) Tomb Blades (5+ per unit). You can use a Cryptek to boost RP rolls by 1 and you can use Ghost Arks to give Warriors a 2nd round of RP during the movement phase. If the Cryptek is in range then the GA's RP will also activate on a 4+ giving you a better chance of reviving most of your unit.

Fire Power
This area is a bit weird because we have lots of weapons that can deal with Toughness 4,5 and 6 but once we try to deal with Toughness 7 or above it becomes a lot harder to find reliable fire power. e.g. 10 gauss Immortals can produce 20 S5 -2 D 1 shots which will kill nearly any unit at T5 or lower and with 4+ or worse save., 16 warriors can produce 32 S4 -1 D1 shot, 8 Deathmarks can produce 16 s4 0 d1 snipper shots with 6+ to wound becoming Mortal wounds plus any other damage etc.

A Doomsday Ark/Doomscythe shoots only Heavy D3 S10 -5 D D6 shots, Triarch Stalker can produce Heavy 2 s9 -4 D D6, Heavy 2 S8 -4 D D6 Melta or Heavy 6 S7 -2 D D3, Monolith produces Heavy 6 S8 -2 D D3. So as you can see we lack a lot of High-strength fire power unless we go into Forge World units.

Army costs
We are a pretty expensive army. A Doomsday Ark is 203pts which only nets you D3 S10 -5 shooting attacks and 10-20 S4 -1 attacks and Quantum Shielding, Warriors are 12pts per model and can be in between 120-240, Immortals are 17pts per models and are 85-170 per unit, Deathmarks are 20 pts per model and can be 100-200 per unit, Tomb Blades range between 40-51pts per model (really expensive but totally worth it if running Gauss) etc.

You will have a hard time in a competitive environment for the moment due to no Codex and a lot of Codex armies having MAJOR fire power, melee power and the use of Stratagems. I would personally tell you to only play friendly games to get back into the game fully and to try the competitive scene when we have a Codex or when you know how the army plays on a general basis and you know what you want your army to do.

For the list. I would drop the Doom Scythes are they always hit on 4s for the Death Ray as you get -1 to hit on heavy weapons if you move (which it has to). I would also make your Deathmarks in bigger units to max out RP chances and potential Mortal Wound damage.

Wow. Really informative! Thanks you. Now when you say Forgeworld what units do you suggest taking? Looked at the pylon things. They look pretty powerful but what’s your thoughts on the centipede looking models? Look like they would be nice centerpieces. Also what’s your opinions on the monoliths?

For Forgeworld it depends on what you want. The Gauss Pylon is a best and only 550pts (Some find that expensive) but its only good at killing things with lots of wounds (like 25+) due to how much damage it does.

Geedub also want people to stop fielding them in 2000pt or lower games due to Apocalypse getting proper rules and wanting those models be used in those game formats.

Personally these are my Favourite;
1. Tesseract Ark - Best Vehicle unit we have! It's Singularity Chamber has 3 different weapon profiles (you can only pick one). a S5 flesh-bane flamer, S5 -4 D 3 multi-wound killer e.g. Terminators, Custodes etc and a S8 -3 D6 Vehicle killer. It is probably the best S8 weapon we have besides the Triarch Stalkers Heat Ray. It also carries 2 Tesla Cannons for enemy units with gak save and at T5 or lower.

It's the only Necron Vehicle with a 5+ invul save and has the chance of denying charge by making your opponent roll 3 and discard the highest.

Canoptek Tomb Sentinel - T7, can deepstrike, heals a wound a turn and can Deny the Witch roll once. Not a bad unit, especially with the gun that it packs: Heavy D6 S10 AP-4 D 3. amazing gun that (nearly) destroy everything it hits. Only issue is lack of Quantum Shielding making this big bug quite squishy so can be a "1 hit wonder" if in the worst situations. Personally I would compare its price to a Heavy Gauss Triarch Stalker due to points and see which one benefits you more.

Canoptek Acanthrites - Killer hornets on crack and speed these guys pack a punch against light-vehicles and multi-wounded units. S7 -4 D6 Melta is nothing to laugh about. While it can't hit T8 Vehicle or Titanic units all that well you should have other units (Triarch Stalker, Doomsday Ark, Tesseract Ark) to keep hose one occupied so that this unit is literally destroying everything it attack. Plus, you get 5 S5 -3 D 1 Attacks per model. They also have a -1 to hit and 3+ save which is nice but not as good as a Wraiths 3+ invul. The unit is quite expensive with each unit costing 40-55 points but if you spend 2 CP to give then RP for 1 tun and within range of a Cryptek you will bring these guys back on 4s. an extra 2 Cp lets you re-roll 1s if you really want them to come back.

Sentry Pylon - 'baby Pylon' compared to the Gauss but it packs a mean punch. has 3 different weapons to choose from; Gauss Exterminator - Heavy 2 S12 -4 D6, +1 to hit against Flying units and -1 to hit if against everything else. Heat Cannon - Heavy D6 S8 -4 D6, Melta with more range, slightly worse then the Exterminator but more shots. Focused Death Ray - Worse Gauss Exterminator.

Toholk the Blinded - Maynarkh Dynasty Cryptek. 5+ invul aura against shooting, 4+, allows you to re-roll your seize roll and lets one Vehicle unit heal D3 wounds per turn instead of 1. Probably the best Cryptek to pick if running a Catacomb Command Barge and the chance to re-roll seize rolls is nice.

In-terms of the Monolith. unless your playing Power Level or your literally playing the friendliest game you could ever play I would not recommend it. The only thing it has going for it is its Heavy 6 S8 weapon and that it doesnt suffer from moving and shooting Heavy weapons. Tomb World deployment is stupid as once you lose the ability to deploy your infantry units they all die automatically (never use tomb world reserves unless you run 2-3 Night Scythes). It doesnt have Quantum Shielding so once you opponent finds that out it will literally be focus fire due to it being squishier then our QS models. The worst thing about it is its point cost. At 381pts you could get so many more models that will fill this roll and more without being as crippled or useless e.g. a Doomsday Ark and Night Scythe are 374 points which gives you; D3 S10 -5 D6 damage, 10 rapid fire s4 -1 d1 shots, Quantium Shielding, the N Scythes Tomb world Deployment and 2 Tesla Destructors.
