I’m not very satisfied by the current Nid flyers. I’d love to see some larger, bulkier flyers that can rain death upon the enemy from above, and at the moment we have 2 almost interceptor class flyers, that look alright, but aren’t all that. I was thinking of modelling a larger, more heavy flyer with a multitude of guns, but I’m stuck for ideas. If anyone has an idea please feel free to comment!

To reiterate, something that looks like it could survive for a long time, with lots of guns, and that looks tyranid-y.
Thanks in advance!

I use dragon wing on cernifex body and it guns, milliput on cernifex tummy for flyer base connect to model.. But this harpy are still work in process. Will do green stuff same job as what I did with my Malanthrope.

I was thinking possibly the FW hive tyrant wings - as they are outstetched they have a larger wingspan than the GW ones. Then I was thinking the front half of a TFex, a custom tail, and then 4x stranglethorn cannons or something aesthetically similar either poking out of the chest like an artillery battery, out of the sides, or attached to the arm joints. Does anyone think that would work/look good? Any other ideas? Heads I should use?

Comments and suggestions appreciated

You can create a concept before glue it together. Maybe something inside your head have something better that we can’t read your mind.

One thing about size, if you made wing lot bigger then your model going have disadvantages because with 8th ed they can shoot your wing instead of your body.

Just in case if you going use it in tournament!

How big are you thinking?
As big as a harridan? Or somewhere in between that and a harpy/crone.

The harpy has those spore mine cysts underneath it for bombing things. Maybe you could take that idea and scale it up.
Or build on the crones tentaclid idea. Have a bunch of larger bio-missile creatures attached to it.

Between the Harridan and hive crone. Maybe 1.5x the harpy? Some wings I could possibly use are the FW flyrant ones - don’t own any so need a comparison shot with harpy wings before I buy.

Gunwise I’m thinking stranglethorn cannons (either 4 or 6), but because a single STC takes up 2 limb slots (1 for the gun, 1 for the slime bag) I might mounts them in the chest facing forward/down like a quad gun (or a quad gun with 6 barrels). Additional things may be added but that’s the basic concept at the moment - a souped up harpy.

Well if it helps, here are my harpy/crone wings next to my forgeworld tyrants wings.
Spoiler:

Also maybe of interest, not all stranglethorn cannons take up 2 limb slots. The ones the Harpy uses only take up one.
Spoiler:

You could potentially start with that and add an extra barrel or two
