Hey Dakka, I just moved to the Atlanta area and I am looking to get back into 40k. I took a break since 5ed (played a few games of 6) and want to pick my nids up again. I typically ran hoard lists, but I had always wanted a true to form Tyranid gun line and the new codex really seems to enable that style of play. My list is pretty simple to follow I think: gaunts up front, guns in the back, with spore mines around to protect against alpha strikers as needed. The rippers are around to sit on objectives so I can have more freedom with my warriors and keep them near the prime. The lictor is just there to soak up the elite spot and maybe tie up an opponents back line for a turn, I don't expect it to do much damage.

I'm happy with the list, but I wanted to see what everyone here thought before making new purchases. I own all the models except 3 warriors, 4 venomthropes, and 2 exocrines.

Some of my concerns/thoughts:
- I have no cc counter if enemies make it though my lines...considered adding bone swords to the warriors, but I'm not sure about pt efficiency
- Could split HG unit to 2 units and drop the lictor, but that drops the efficiency of Single-Minded Annihilation
- The winged Tyrant doesn't exactly fit the style, but I already own the model. For now it may have to stay, but I'd be happy to alternative suggestions.

I'm not big on Venomthropes personally as I think they're too easily shot off the table.

The primary list critique I have would be to combine the Warriors into one unit due to Single Minded Annihilation (as well as preventing your opponent from getting OPs for enemy units killed). While I normally use this Stratagem on my Hive Guard, I've had games where my Warriors have gotten a lot of work done thanks to it.

Also, I'd give the Warriors Boneswords instead of Scything Talons.

Its not a bad list at all, but i'll offer what i'd change.

Since your Hive Guard are gonna be utilizing the shoot twice strat every turn, i'd drop both exocrines for more biovore units. This gives you more board control and less juicy targets (biovores much easier to hide).

With the extra points your getting you have 2 options:

A. Take a fortification network and get some sporecysts. This gives you some deep strike protection and more wounds on the table (as you spawn 3 spores or a mucoloid per turn).

B. Drop the venomthropes for another lictor, Add a malanthrope, and increase your warrior count. Gives you a more stable backfield/midfield buffer and makes more use of your prime (i dont find him worth his points unless you take 15+ warriors).
