So I played my Defiler for the first game this weekend and I have to say my expectations were blown out of the water. Mine was built with a Havoc Launcher and Twin Lascannon, and alongside the Battle Cannon it comes stock with, it ate up the enemy. I was playing against Admech, and not only did it manage to absorb 3 turns of Rapidfire Battle Cannon shots, but it itself nearly half healthed said knight.I think the role of distraction carnifex greatly undervalues its potential as a backline artillery.

I rarely bothered pre-8th but under this edition Defilers are golden. Well worth taking.

40k: Space Marines (Rift Wardens) - 8050pts.
T9A: Vampire Covenants 2060pts.

I've only used mine once in 8th. It got blown off the table turn 1 along with a predator. Against DG. Needless to say it scarred me from using them. But with the points decrease I might bring it out again. Hopefully I have the same luck you did.

I ran 3 alongside Abaddon for a while and they were pretty awesome with the re-rolls. That Strength 16 in CC caught some people off guard too.

Yeah, Defilers are pretty awesome. I sometimes use them instead of Laspreds for the CC support. The battlecannon + lascannons can be very tough on opponents.

Another good reason to run all-ranged, keep that thing AWAY from the enemy

Mind, I also play World Eaters. 90% of my board is already running up the map at them anyways, so a Defiler would just clog it even more.

I've been waiting to build one (using alternate parts - I can't stand the actual model). At a glance I don't see the big hate for it, particularly for the points. Also - it can use the Daemon vehicle stratagem in a pinch.

Not the strongest of walkers, but at least they've returned to a fun use in 8th.

A friend of mine plays 2-3 of them, they are fine, nothing to be scared of tho. Get them to move and they arnt very good.

I didn't even get a turn with it. He got first. I couldn't believe how much firepower his army had. I play WE as well. I've always used them as backfield artillery. Now, more so since they have such bad BS.

I only use mine if I am playing WE's and take Kharn. I use the Defiler and a Las pred in the back right next to Kharn for those sweet rerolls and they do amazing as a fire base. Plus no one in their right minds want to get close enough to get into combat because, well, Kharn is sitting right there and a Defiler rerolling in CC is stupid powerful.

Not everyone likes them but I find they are good enough that I don't feel like I'm making myself weaker by playing with them. I just wish their model got upgraded.

Aaaah, nothing you can do against that then , thankfully I had a lot of threats on the board that he put a bunch of stuff into. (Rhino of Zerkers, Maulerfiend, Vindicator, etc.), so he didnt put it ALL into the Defiler.
