So the question today is: How do ya'll carry and transport your armies? I have a budget feldherr case that I use for my Dark Eldar and it does the job pretty well, although I cant carry too many vehicles in it. Given that I just bought 1500 points of Ad Mech, I need a new case that can hold a mechanized army, of about 40 infantry, 6 vehicles and 2 kastelans.
Thoughts and advice, as well as general discussion, are appreciated.
Whats the best and cheapest alternative? The worst?

I have a pretty sizable battlefoam case, which I like a lot.

My only general complaint about battlefoam is that the foam itself is pretty rigid, almost to the point where I worry about it scraping paint off my minis.

That being said, I've never noticed any damage.

I have had KR Multicase and Battlefoam.

Personal experience I do not like Battlefoam and will never deal with them again.

KR was wonderful and have been using their aluminum case for years now.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

Hum, Ive been looking at battlefoam so good to hear I might want to avoid them. Any particular reason you dont like them?

To keep it short I bought their larger case, 1520 or w/e, and it never arrived and they disputed that is was shipped and I received it. I eventually got a refund but it took months. Honestly it is my personal experience. From what I can tell they are good cases and the foam is decent.

I made my own with PVC and bent sheet metal.

It holds a dumb amount of rats.

but i need to bend up some more trays.

Iv had basicly every type of case including the table wars one

but i always found it a shame that i couldnt display my miniatures without going through the trouble of unloading foam

so i cut out the middle man and made my own for magnetized models that fit into my ikea book case.

I asked a similar question a little while ago. Here's the thread for your viewing pleasure.

I want to add, I still love my BattleFoam. There's a good chance I'll get a bigger one this coming GenCon. They always run show specials. Plus don't have to pay shipping.

This is pretty much the best thing I've seen for information about storage solutions. Especially considering that they address that someone driving to a local and someone flying cross-country are going to need very different solutions.

I have mainly battlefoam and a little bit of k&r.

The k&r foam is way too squishy for what I like so I haven’t bought any more. Although I can see why some people love it.

The battlefoam is much firmer, but I wouldn’t go so far as to believe it would scratch a paint job. I currently own 6 of the 720 size cases and 1 of the 216’s. I use the 216 to transport my paint supplies around. Also I have enough foam to cover about 10 full armies.

The main thing with the custom sized foam is that the models will be snug. Some people might not like that.

Regarding the guy with the missing 1520, battlefoam weighs every shipment before it goes out and uses tracking so I’d find it hard to believe that the package wasn’t delivered. More likely it was stolen off your porch. Which, some people consider “not delivered”. *shrug*

I can understand why there would be an issue if they put that much into ensuring their shipments get there, however, I am also of the opinion that its the responsibility of the seller to get the item to you. If it was stolen off of the porch or just simply never delivered, even though it's not strictly their fault It was their job to get it there and ultimately a failure.
So anyways thats my take.
Regardless, other reviews of battlefoam seem pretty positive. The snugness issue does tend to get in the way of some models imo. For instance, some of my DE have spikey bits sticking out, and dont fit right. Others are just in the wrong pose to fit properly. So I can see that being an issue.

I’m a big fan of KR Multicase. I like the soft foam and box system. Their website can be a little rough, even after they revamped it, but their customer support is excellent.

When I was doing research into cases, I found a number of negative comments about battlefoam as a company. Excellent product, but if anything went wrong, they were rough to deal with. This was a few years ago, so they might have gotten better. YMMV.

At the moment I use a cheap steel cake tray/baking tray which I then put in a plastic box.
All my miniatures I've finished have magnets on the bottom or base, so they stick to the metal tray and don't slide around. The box lid has bubble wrap on the inside.
Also taller miniatures don't fit in, yet, but it just needs a bigger or different plastic box.

It has advantages of I can just take the entire tray in and out of the box at once. I can get a lot of minis on one tray as they are vertical.

That seems to work ok so far. What I can say is if I drop my box or some big jolt happens to it, they'll probably scatter everywhere and stick together with their magnets .

Pretty good size, customisable and also very handily stores perfectly in my gaming cupboards.

My favorite option now is kr multicase backpack + their card boxes, with magnets.
I don't buy their foam trays (expect for big odd models like flyers or my wraithknight), but I use their cardboard boxes as magnetic supports: at the bottom of each one, I glued a thin steel sheet, so magnets stick to it directly. I also created some inserts that are very thin sheets of plywood with a magnetic film on each side. That way, these inserts can be added inside any cardboard box (they stick very well on the steel sheet), and provide a magnetic surface.

This is because my models are magnetized in two different ways: on infantry, or most things that come with a base, I just put a steel washer under the base (flush with the bottom). It provides additional weight to the model (which I really like, especially for my top-heavy harlequins), and I can put them on the inserts I created.
Most vehicles, however, receive magnets under their hull / inside their flying base (I paint my skimmer's bases, so I don't mind drilling it to add magnets inside), and are put directly in the cardboard boxes.

I used to use big plastic boxes instead of KR's cardboard boxes, but the main issue was carrying them around. Now I have a standard size for my boxes, and they're easy to move in their backpacks (I also have a case with a shoulder strap, but I'm not a big fan). Also, when I move one of the few models that need a foam tray (I still haven't figure out how to transport a WK or a hemlock in a magnetic case), it's pretty easy (as it fits a half size box, which is then easy to carry with the rest of the army).

I have almost the whole line of battlefoam cases.
Their trays are best, their cases are best.

Tried sabolt army transport and GW cases - they are infinitely inferior to battlefoam.

I've got a large Tabletop Tyrant case and it's served me very well.

Plastic in all the sides keeping it sturdy, and enough space for just about anything I want to bring with me.

It's got pouches for books, pockets for dice all sorts.

A whole lot better than the plastic box filled with paper towels I was using before as well. I'd definitely recommend their stuff.

I've used a Sabol Army Transport for most armies and an Army Transport Division for the larger ones with pluck foam for about 15 years now. It's generally sufficient, except for a few odd models (Valkyries, Baneblades, Knights) that need to go in a separate container. Most 40K tanks come in a standard~ish shape, so I can reuse the same trays for Marines, Guard and Chaos.

For the next local tourney I'm playing in, I'll be fielding a trio of Knights. I picked up a plastic Tote from Walmart and will spend some time over the next very weeks gluing in some padding and inserts to get them there securely.

I have a few small Ultrapro cases that I use for Warmachine, Necromunda and other small skirmish games.

I am curious as to how people carry knights. I just bought one today and I realized I don't have a case for it.

KR multicase has a boxset for 2 regular IK, the FW ones are taller, so I use plastic container with foams cutouts from various cases and air packets to cushion it.

I got a Chaos Knight, I'm thinking I might just have to make room for it in my DIY box I made. But only when I need it, I won't be lugging my ~$200 model everywhere.

I'm using Crystal Fortress cases to carry my infantry, dreads and thunderwolves.

Using magnets and the steel rounds, you can make sure stuff is well stuck down during transport.

They are pretty unique:

For big tanks, mix of cases or as you can see on the left, plastic boxes with pick and pluck foam.

the chaos knight will fit, its the same size as the regulars, I meant to say the FW cerastus pattern ones. If you mag or pin at the waist, it'll definitely fit easily.

For knights I use this:

It is pretty universal and suits different posing and weapons.
My Cerastus Knight atrapos is too high for this, but mine has magnet in the waist and I put legs in one slot and the torso in the other.

Don't buy battlefield, customer service is horrible. It doesn't matter what happens they won't care and getting a refund is pretty hard as they will fight you on everything.

I am going KR multicase as they have amazing customer service. The website is a pain so I emailed them my army list and they responded back with everything I needed as well as the best way to save money.

This week I'm buying $1500 worth of foam from them.

Battlefrom as far as I'm concerned needs to go.

I use this exact case https://www.portablewarfare.com/product/sergeant-chaos-pink/ it's pretty good and can easily fit most of my 4000+ pts of blood angels models. It has a lot of pockets and room for my dice, tape measure, and other gaming supplies. The only problem I have with it is that i can't fit my stormraven in it.

Ive been dabbling with the idea of just making a 40K box out of wood, and filling it with pick n pluck. Thoughts on this?
It would mean that I can size it exactly to my needs.

Its entirely doable and sabol foam is pretty cheap.

make it in the style of like an old school wooden ammo crate for extra cool.

I like KR, and disliked my Battle Foam bag so much I sold it (cheap bag, crap foam, and stiff bottom layers which hit/bent models on the layer beneath).

I currently use foam from Tabletop Tyrant and I use some leftover Pelican cases for basic minis. My bigger models go in Bigso boxes w/ a magnetized tray thing I made. They're not really fly-worthy but I don't plan on ever taking my minis via plane.

If I did it over again, I'd consider using normal GW bases instead of my Renedra flats and use washers/magnet sheet like a lot of folks - probably best for spindly miniatures.
