Hey Dakka!!

I am looking to dive into Warhammer 40k with one of two factions. Orks or Sisters! Since I am starting from scratch, I don't mind using different units or different gear, just note that the two themes I see for these armies are the only thing I really want to stick with!

Please let me know what you think and how I can improve the list to compete!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ORKS:
Battalion:
Big Mek, Big Choppa, KFF
Weird Boy - Da Jump

Boyz x 26, 1 'eavy weapon (big shoota), 1 Nob with slugga and big choppa
Gretchen x 10
Gretchen x 10

Mek Gunz x 3 (all KMK)
Meka-Dread x 2 with Mega Charga, Rattler Kannon, Rippa Klaw, Rokkit Bomms

Super Heavy Auxiliary
Stompa

106 PL 1996 points.

The idea I have with the Orks is a Big Mek army (hence the stompa and Meka-Dreads) One unit of Gretchin sits on the "Ork side" objective while the other goes in the Stompa to jump out and grab an objective if I need it. The Boyz and Weird Boy are deployed on my line and move forward and the Werid Boy jumps them if need be to help get them in the fight. The Mek Gunz hang tight and lay down cover fire while the Stompa and twins move forward to harass my opponent. I know it's not going to be SUPER competitive but I want to at least stand a chance of getting some minor victories/not get tabled every game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sisters:
Battalion:
Cannoness, bolt pistol, chainsword
Celestine 2 x bodyguard

5 x sisters w/ heavy bolter
5 x sisters w/heavy bolter
5 x sisters w/heavy bolter
5 x sisters w/heavy bolter

Sororitas Repressor w 2 x heavy flamer and storm bolter
Sororitas Repressor w 2 x heavy flamer and storm bolter
Sororitas Repressor w 2 x heavy flamer and storm bolter
Sororitas Repressor w 2 x heavy flamer and storm bolter

4 x crusaders

Spearhead Detachment:
Canoness w bolt pistol, chain sword

Exorcist
Exorcist
Exorcist

Super Heavy Detachment
Knight Warden w/ Gatling cannon, heavy stubber, reaper chainsword

109PL 1999 Points

The idea is have everything moving forward except for one Canoness who babysits the Exorcists. Crusaders act as a body guard for the other Canoness who moves with the other sisters to the front lines. All via the transports.

Meanwhile the knight moves up one flank with Celestine moving up the other.

No real theme here although I do like the idea of the Crusaders in the list.

Thoughts?

Clearly off-topic, but I just wanted to mention that the Sororita Repressor is OOP. Since you're just diving into 40K, you might not be aware.

Thanks for the input! I figured most of the Sisters tanks were going to be crazy hard to find so I was going to convert other vehicles to match up with this one!

As a Sisters player myself I can give you a couple of suggestions.

Repressor is 1000% the best tank to take in a sisters army. But only if you are using ALL of the firing ports. The Heavy bolters in the Squads seem out of place. Personally I either go with 2 x Meltas and a Combi on the Sarge, 2 x Flamers and a Combi on the Sarge, or for pure Dakka firing bunker I go storm bolters. I use 2 five girl squads and have each have both special weapons and a Combi on the Sarge and stick 2 squads in each Repressor. That way all 6 firing ports are being used by something other than a regular Bolter.

Exorcist are garbage even with the latest points drop. Sisters are meant as either a gun line that fires several times due to AoF or a highly mobile alpha strike list. Meeting in the middle often exposes our many weaknesses (T3, S3)

Like or list Cannoness come in two basic forms; shooting and Melee focused. For a shooting one I'd go with Combi Plasma and a Power Maul. For Melee you can't really get much better than an Inferno Pistol and the new relic blade.

I understand you like the crusaders but I'm honestly surprised to see a sisters list without at least one if not both of our 2 best units. Dominions and Seraphim are both absolute beast when it comes to doing what they do best.

Dominions get a free scout move (Free 12" move inside a Repressor!) Than can still move and fire. Every member can take a special weapon! You need anti horde? Flamers for all! You need anti tank? Meltas in your opponent's deployment zone turn 1! But wait there's more, they are safety inside a 12 W T 7 tank that also has more Flamers! Got to kill the tank outright before you can expose the juicy T3 on the inside. All the while you are pumping out extreme Dakka.

Seraphim are the best bodyguard for Celestine. If you use 2 small squads or 1 bigger squad more depends on you. Between Celestine and these girls you will almost always use the AoF on them. Extra move is insane on these girls, once again inside your opponent's deployment zone turn 1. Here is the kicker they all have pistols which means they can fire in Close Combat during the shooting phase. Here is what I do with mine. Rush them 24" across the board and tie up tanks and other heavy weapon teams up in close combat. So on the opponent's turn he can't fire with them. The key is to wrap around so they can't leave combat. Honestly close combat with these girls is laughable but they aren't meant to kill just meant to survive. Then on the beginning of our next turn shoot the pistols (hello 4 shots from inferno pistols and 1 shot plasma pistol) that will straight up murder tanks or anything else you are locked in combat with. Then move 12" next to something else to blow up (more tanks, heavy weapon squads, or my personal favorite support characters) fire again in the shooting phase and eliminate that target and then charge something you can live againist to do it all again next turn.

Thanks for all the input! The lack of the Dominions and Seraphim likely come from my lack of ever playing 40k. I will absolutely redo a list to include them. What list would you run as an intro Sisters player?

Thoughts on ork list:

I hate to discourage a budding player too much, but it is worth pointing out that most ork vehicles range from not great to dumpster fire, so dread mob lists are, sadly, not the best.

This is coming from someone who owns 11 deff dreads, 18 killa kans, 3x orkanauts, and 5 stompas.

That being said, if it's a theme you want to stick with some ideas:

Meka dreads are actually fairly decent for the points, but their biggest issue is that the models themselves cost a pretty penny. I'm looking to buy one in the next week or so, and with free shipping it costs ~$130.

So unless you've got money to burn, I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a new player. Instead, I might recommend gork/morkanauts (I call them orkanauts). Cheaper, plastic kit (so easier to work with than resin), readily available, and fairly decent-ish for the points.

Next, the stompa. Again, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but stompas are not only in the 'dumpster fire' category of ork vehicles, but are like a white-hot, raging dumpster fire. They are basically the measuring stick for 'badness' in the game, in my opinion, as in people say "well, X unit may be bad, but is it as bad as a stompa?" It's hard to overstate how bad they are, especially for their points cost. They're so bad right now they would be just decent if they were half the points cost.

That being said, stompas are honestly relatively cheap ($$$), especially for how much plastic you get. They're about the same price as orkanauts.

Instead of a stompa, you'd be better off with a bunch of deff dreads and killa kans. Toss KFFs on the orkanauts (or meka dreads) to protect them a bit and see what they can do.

Also of critical importance to dread mob lists are waaagh banners - they buff vehicles WS as well. And since orkanauts are transports to boot, it's not a bad idea to put banner nobs in them so they can jump out and cheerlead as the walkers get stuck in.

KMKs are actually excellent units, as well.

Thanks for the input! I would rather have critical input like that than people telling me to run the list as is haha.

For the Meka-dreads I was going to convert them as I just think its a great opportunity to add some customization to my WAAAGH. I will have to rework the list to take in the advice you gave.

What sort of list would you run if you were doing a Mek list?

Something to the tune of this:

Battalion: 1996 points

HQ - big mek, KFF, wierdboy

Troops - 29x slugga boyz, nob with PK, 2x 10-grot units

elites - nob with waaaagh banner

Heavy Support - Deff dread x 3, all with skorcha + extra melee arm

gorkanaut (or swap out for another mork with a KFF, for more protection and actually about 20 points cheaper).

Killa kans x 6 with rokkits

At this point, your HS slots in the battalion are full up, but you can take an auxiliary support detachment for -1 CP, giving you a total of 5. This is more than you'd get for taking a spearhead detachment, so it's overall a win. Besides, orks only use command points for the reroll and interrupts, as we have no (useful) stratagems, so they're not of critical need anyways.

Aux support:

Morkanaut with KFF

All of that is available for sale (except the nob with waaagh banner, that's online only) in any GW (or other) store.

You could also add/subtract as you like to fit in the KMKs, which again are excellent units. Maybe swap a couple kans or dreads for the KMKs.

Orks are going to be way easier and cheaper to get into than sisters. You're going to have to either buy incredibly expensive metal models for sisters or convert other models like SoS(what I'm doing).

That being said, Sisters are a fun army, just not the best for a new player from a hobby/price perspective. If you do pick sisters and dont' mind the effort, you'll probably enjoy it.

Orks on the otehr hand are also fun, and are the easiest models to convert and customize because bad/newbie modeling and painting just makes it look more orky. Orks also have solid start collecting/battleforce boxes that are a good value.

If you do decide to get into sisters and don't mind a little bit of coversion, check out the Sisters of Silence models from Prospero. You can get them affordably on Ebay. I'm putting different heads on them from 3rd party companies and painting them a different color scheme(grey and purple). They cost me about half the price of the metal models in the end. The kit comes with bolters, flamers, and greatswords. Flamers can be converted to meltas pretty easy. I just need a good storm bolter conversion for it.

This looks like a very fun list to run! I would just need to find a good alternative model to the Seraphim.

Why 4 death cult and 4 flagellents? Just curious.

What heads are you using? I was debating Sisters of Silence but was also intrigued by the Dreamforge models as well.

I think the hardest part will be finding a suitable tank and jump troops.

I use the Raging Heroes Iron something girls (mainly for the poses) with seraphim backpacks and SoS arms (the Forgeworld ones with a bolt pistol in each hand). Makes for a dynamic posed seraphim with the proper wargear. As for why I use both death cults and Arcos because they do well against different things. Death Cults will chew armour while Arcos eat hoards.

Haven't seen those models yet, I will have to look!
