I'd quite like to add Azrael to my Dark Angels army, but I'm not a fan of the official GW model. He's a bit small for a start. I'd quite like to convert or kitbash a new version. I've not done very many kitbashes or conversions (I could probably count them on one hand) so I really have no idea how difficult it would be or where to start. Does anyone have any ideas? The new Dark Angels primaris lieutenant might be a decent starting point. I'm not worried about him being primaris-size, that seems reasonable as he's the big boss of the chapter so he should be a bit bigger than an ordinary space marine, I reckon.

He looks like this:

So what would I need to do? Change his right arm altogether, maybe. Raise his sword arm. Perhaps change the sword for a more fancy one. And add a banner. Any ideas?

Or I could just buy this 3rd-party mini and use him as counts-as. What do you think?

Sorry, I accidentally submitted this thread halfway through typing it, if anyone read the half-finished version.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Hmmm, not a fan of either really... What about using the Primaris chaplain as a base model instead (looks more like a chapter master than just a veteran) with the head from the dark vengeance company master, a dark angels shoulder pad, swap out his halo for a standard and some minor conversion work to give him the right weapons?

Yeah, that's not a bad shout. I agree that the DA primaris lieutenant is a bit of a plain, boring model to work from, actually. The only problem with the chaplain is the chest. That rib design is a bit distinctive, and not quite right for a chapter leader.

I have a squad of Dark Angel veterans and if I remember what was on it, if you combined the bits from that sprue (namely the torso, legs, helmet and wings for helmet, and banner) with the sprue from the space marine commander for the weapons (especially the combi-plasma) that would make a pretty good azrael I imagine.

Mmmmm i think Azs main issue is that he is so plain compared to other full on hero characters.

maybe just giving him more extra bling and a better pose would help out more than anything.

specificly the shoulder pads, back pack and his utility belt.

the gun is super cool, but his sword is really basic.

Humans are human sized. SM are SM sized. Primaris are Primaris sized. I think making normal marines out of primaris parts is real wonky.

I would start with his datasheet. What does he come with? Terminator armor? Sword, Gun?

Search the SM line for bits you like to build your own. Look up making cloaks from tissue and apply those techniques for a hood and tabard.

Make it your own.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

It might be better to go full heresy and use ether the Tsons or deathguard kit as their marines are better scaled

though im not sure if az uses some specific armor mark.

I had one I did, sold off now and I've no pics but it was the dark vengeance leader, meaning he was wearing the helm and then I converted a bolter plasma combi bearer rather than a helmet bearer with the lil guy from either the vet or knights box

From Endor to Hoth, Ripley to Spock, I'll get what you want but there's Gunna be a cost

Just remember as well just because he is a leader of the SM it doesn't mean he is going to be bigger. SM aren't like orks who grow to be bigger and stronger and the biggest and strongest marines don't always end up becoming the leaders of their fellow marines.

No, but my plan was to make a model that stood out as being something impressive on the table. The current Azrael is slightly smaller than a standard tactical squad marine, and looks a really outdated model. He's got that big hands and big feet look.

Anyway, thanks for all the help everyone. If anyone else has any ideas, or any specific parts that could be used, particularly for the sword, banner, and combi-plasma, then I'd be pleased to hear them.

Well if you have Az then id just steal the back pack and banner from him its good enough.

the back part is from a tau carbine.

from da warp.

im partial to this sword even though its far more ornate than his normal one.
but alternativly the new primarus upgrade has a really cool hero pose with the sword though its in the wrong hand so the combi may need to be on a sling.

Yeah, the old upgrade sprue has some good stuff as well, including a big winged helmet that would work as the Lion's Helmet. Perhaps it's as simple as some bits from a vererans squad box and the upgrade sprue, although that still leaves the combi-plasma.

I don't have an Azrael model personally. Last time I checked it's out of stock on the GW website, actually.

Thanks again for the help, guys.
