Hi Dakka,

I'm getting back into 40k after a long hiatus, but I don't have a ton of time to actually game as I have a 5 month old and just started a new job. I've recently started listening to Preferred Enemy and The Independent Characters podcasts and I obviously follow Dakka. What other sources does everyone follow to scratch their 40k itch when they don't have time to play, paint, etc.?

Cheers

I personally love Next Level Painting streams and videos because I've learned a lot from them. I've listened to a podcast from The Long War and Forge the Narrative here and there. There are tons and tons of people out there making hobby tutorials, battle reports and podcasts so there's a lot to choose from.

I watch a lot of the Warhammer TV painting tutorials. You can learn a fair amount from Duncan Rhodes, the master of the Thin Coats. I also follow The Glacial Geek on Youtube (he even used to post his battle reports here on Dakka).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 40 | Current main painting project: Tomb Kings

I follow Tabletop Tactics, because they're total bosses. I watch Winters SEO time to time as well as Warhammer TV.

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

The best podcast at the moment is Preferred Enemies. I used to follow Independent Characters but it's really become less interesting lately (I admit I preferred the older episodes with Geoff, etc.). I haven't found many other quality podcasts, just a bunch which are hit or miss.

Battle report wise: Tabletop Tactics all day. Entertaining, and as mentioned previously: total bosses. I haven't found many other channels which are entertaining or charismatic enough to warrant me watching a 2+ hour battle report. There are some beautifult ables and games (Winters SEO, Striking Scorpion 82, etc.) but they just don't entertain as much. Miniwargaming is a distant consideration.

Thank you for all of the responses!

It definitely seems like Tabletop Tactics and Warhammer TV are worth the watch. I was hoping to hear more positive feedback about some of the other podcasts so I can listen while working or driving..I'll have to do some exploring on my own I suppose.

Miniwargaming on Youtube is another good source for reviews, BatReps, narrative campaigns, etc. Plus, they occasionally post on Dakka.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)
