Subject: GW's ball and socket flying stand

Hi guys,
I have a few Screamers of Tzeentch, and the ball and socket stand is, frankly, bad.
What solutions would you recommend to keep it functional as a stand, but also removable for transport / storage?
Do you have pictures? Do it look ok?
Cheers for your advise,
Z

A simple pin to stop it from slipping should work. The ball still holds the weight of the model so you don't have to drill deep into the ball and thus shouldn't mess up the look of the translucent stand. The only problem you might run into is the model swiveling around the pin, which shouldn't be much of a problem as long as the model is mounted fairly straight.

My advice? Throw away GW flight stands and check out the omni stand options from Corsec Engineering.

I stuck a magnet into the mini with greenstuff to fill the rest of the socket. Then filed the top of the ball flat and glued another magnet there.
This is for the new Eldar jetbikes, YMMV on screamers.

I found I had less problems when I took the right size drill bit and deepened the socket

Do you reckon this might work on something larger, like a Razorwing Jetfighter? Perhaps with bigger magnets?
I had a bit of a disaster and managed to glue the part of the jetfighter that the stand slots into upside-down so there's nowhere for the stand to fit. I only realised this after I'd 90% painted the thing. At the moment it sits in a dark corner of my painting area, as I'm too embarassed to even finish painting it. I have no idea how I'm going to attach it to the stand short of superglueing it, which would obviously make it pretty tricky to transport.

I tried magnetizing the stems on falcon grav tanks. The issue was the torque; they couldn’t balance on a single magnet. I stepped up my game with stronger magnets, but then they had so much force they just broke off the superglue from the stem. For something like a flyer, I might go with a threaded acrylic rod, and either sink or just solidly glue a nut on/in the model. But that’s just theory crafting.
For something the size of a vyper, I double stack magnets, and they do fine on the stem.

I had a method I tried that worked nicely with the Falcon chassis, and that was that I drilled into the flying base and used a second flight stand to support the frame. Of course, with a few other techniques, one can do similar - flat base, a few stems, and some pins to give it a three or four point support frame.

That's an interesting idea. I wonder how difficult it would be to sink the nut into the flyer though. That's where the problems might come in. if it's not in there well-enough, it's going to break off with the twisting motion of screwing and unscrewing it.

It’s a technique I heard of more in regards to FW resin flyers. Big heavy birds. In an ideal world you would install it in the build phase, where you could just drill a hole in the bottom of the flyer and mount the nut inside, where you could GS around or otherwise support it.
