If by Greenwing you mean a selection of forces from the codex, then Greenwing it is....

A mix of all of three. Why should i limited myself to just the "exclusive" stuff? "But then you should just play Ultramarines!" Well excuse me, no. I want to play Dark Angels, and I use their special forces, and I use too their basic units that they share with other marines.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I don't think any wing individually cuts it. Which will annoy some people I guess.

Deathwing is probably the weakest on its own, but that's just really elite infantry this edition. Competitively we're unlikely to see any terminators at all in a list. In more casual games you can take a unit of Knights and do well with them.

Ravenwing is decent, nice price cuts in CA. But I don't think they stand alone. Talonmaster is great. Black Knights are nice, but probably outclassed by Plasma Inceptors.

Greenwing is solid. The gunline of Plasma Devs or Hellblasters looks strong. But you need some mobile stuff to help them. It's probably the strongest individually, because Inceptors aren't Ravenwing so you can get decent mobility without the guys in black armour. But you might want a Dark Talon (not totally sure on this one, but it's appealing with the price cut) and Talonmaster and stuff still in the best possible list.

Company Champs are Greenwing too, which have to be one of the best melee units around surely? 40 pts for 4W 3+/5++, 3A hit on 2+ with reroll against characters, S7 AP -3, d3 damage... I feel people are underestimating what you can do spamming this guy!

Each wing does something awesome, but not enough to spam that one wing. I like the book more so than the BA and GK books for sure. I feel you need all 3.

I'd say Greenwing + Ravenwing is the best combination

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion & X-Wing: CIS / WWX: Union

I will usually have two of the three elements, with a solid "Greenwing" as the core of the list. I go between Deathwing and Ravenwing as the striking element. The Ravenwing got better with the Codex while the Deathwing pretty much stayed the same. Trying to fit all three elements in a 2,000 point list is possible, but I find its better to have two well-formed Detachments with dedicated buffing characters at the centre of each.

I think that you can absolutely play an effective pure Greenwing force that relies on Grim Resolve and perhaps Weapons from the Dark Age. It still looks and feels like a Dark Angels army.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

Greenwing+ravenwing is my conclusion from the codex. Maybe a unit of deathwing knights wouldn't be amiss, but it'd really just be that one unit and a HQ deepstriking in with them.

I think it is Greenwing + RW and/orDW. I don't think the book functions without Greenwing in the mix for 2 reasons
1.)without them you have too few CP to make use of many of our stratagems.
2.) you need scouts to protect your other stuff from deepstriking elements.

So far I've been running a Greenwing and Ravenwing combo and it has been pretty effective. I have written Greenwing/Deathwing lists, but they just don't seem as dangerous. I like the speed the Ravenwing brings combined with the body count the Greenwing can put up. I believe the codex is a winner.

The Company Champion is a boss, but he should be 44 points. I'm 99% sure Battlescribe is wrong on his point cost.

Greenwing + Blood Angels for the ultimate smashy-but-shoot-your-face-in-with-plasma army. Of course this is my own army, the Guardian Angels.

Ravenwing looks coolest, by far.

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

My assessment is also Greenwing+Ravenwing.

Purely on performance, greenwing fire support + ravenwing board control seems to work the best.

Deathwing + Ravenwing combo still suffers from too little models in play, and the anvil-and-hammer maneuver only goes so far.
Greenwing + Deathwing just doesn't synergize like the other combos.
Tri-wing could work if everything else was a little bit cheaper.

I've always played my DA as mostly Greenwing since I first started them 16 years ago. since the new codex dropped I can totally see the appeal of having a Master and Lt. babysit a gunline of Hellblasters while a talonmaster cruises around with a large group of Landspeeders tearing up things and then hopping out before any major response can be mounted.

Deathwing because I love Terminators. Historically that's been pretty much the only pro for playing Deathwing, though.

As of the FAQ, you are definitely correct!

He's 40pts without wargear, and all wargear listed in the codex entry is free. However he has the combat shield rule, but doesn't have it listed as wargear. Combat shields are 4pts.

Pre-FAQ, he technically doesn't have a combat shield. He just has the rule, and would cost 40.

Post-FAQ, he now explicitly has a Combat Shield as wargear and so must pay for it.

44pts it is!

Still a bargain, and I could totally see people taking a Vanguard Detachment with 6 of these guys and sticking them all in a Razorback or something like that.

I voted all three. I have been playing dark angels since codex angels of death was released and from 2nd ed up until 4th played pure deathwing. then i added some ravenwing when they got the teleport homers. Since the advent of 8th I`ve added some tacticals and power armoured stuff and will probably add some primaris now that our codex seems to be really pushing hellblasters. I`m not going to say its the most in game effective way (thats probably going to have a strong reliance on ravenwing) but i am enjoying the games a lot more as i have more options and varied units to play with.

All three can work, if you use the right units.

Deathwing: deathwing knights for days

Ravening: black knights

Green wing: HELL BLASTERA?!!!!!

To many unpainted models to count.
