I have some models that I kitbashed to use as Mutilators, and they are based on 75x42 mm bases, while the Mutilators are on 40mm rounds. Its a fairly obvious difference in both model size and base size. The reason im not bringing up modeling for advantage is because these are FAR easier to gain LoS on than normal Mutilator models, but im wondering if anyone would call me out on making it easier for me to get more models into CC? Is that really something to fret over?

Vigo. Spain.

How are you getting more models into CC with bigger bases? Smaller bases are better to bring more models to fight. With 25mm you can have models fighting in 4 rows.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

No, I meant more ENEMY models. More potential to tie up 2 units instead of just one.

I use rather large bases for all my hqs just to give them a bigger presence on the feild and to allow me to add more to their bases. I didn't even consider the advantages until someone mentioned it to me... like my Lt. His base is about a few cm bigger than normal and so he does kinda have a larger bubble. But honestly, if people complained that much I'd happily remove an inch from his bubble because I play for style and fun not to be a competitive winner.

if you are a tournament player then you'd probably want to avoid this since many tournaments will call you out on this. Otherwise - who cares

Besides, why I would run Mutis over Oblits in a tournament setting is beyond me

75 vs 40 is quite a large difference, though I personally would be fine with it. I've been putting my non-primaris marine characters on 40mm bases too as I use primaris models for them so I want to be consistent. Besides there are some official normal marine characters on 40mm anyway.

I've been contemplating putting my normal human and eldar characters on 32mm for them to stand out. Some of such characters come with that base size already.

your mind

32s look better in most cases.
GW dropped the ball on the basing issue however.
I often make bases from different materials, but I try to keep them roughly the same size and shape as the original intended bases.
With such a large difference, why not model some terrain onto the base that allows an easy eyeball to the normal size and shape, some sort of marker so that you might play standard while basing nonstandard... just some tufts of grass and a skull here or there, like that...

I base my battle sisters on 32mms so they don't fall over as often and nobody has complained, though I take the time to explain my reasoning up front.

If your model actually does require that amount of base space then I say go for it, but if somebody asks be prepared to play it 'as if' it were on a normal base.

Well not fully true, a larger base can easily Multi charge better, or stop units from falling back with less models, its a double edge word for units with 10+ models, but from 1-8 ish models its a buff.

On the Topic.

Tyranids Warriors, Hive guard, Biovores used to all be on 40mm, then they went to 60mm, GW has said many times you can use the old sizes, with a large change like that, i wouldnt think these bases be to bad, as long as they "Fit" on the bases, if they are much smaller and it looks odd, for sure change them.
