Hello all. I'm planning on scratch building a stompa for my bad moons and wanted to know any tips or experience you guys may have. I'm going to be using mostly plasticard for the whole thing.
Have any of you guys scratch built a stompa before? How difficult did you guys find it?

I've been thinking of doing this too. I've seen a great one by General_K using a Mr Potato head toy https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/684927.page

If you're using plasticard what I'd do is build the frame using old sprues then just cover it in glue and throw plasticard bits at it. Literally throw them! If you're going for the GW stompa look it would be pretty easy, just cone shaped and sheets layered on top of each other

Personally I usually shop around at thrift stores to find old toy parts to use as a foundation. Then just add my own touches and paint it to look orky.

A lot will depend on the shape you're going for. Fotr a big dread-type thing, a Mr-potatohead or similar seems a good start.

Fotr the 'classic' stompa, a cone or pyramid-like shape seems a good start. Or a flower pot .

General tips: make sure to nick and dent all the armour plates, and keep the worky bitz in mind: if it should be able to rotate, make sure the part could, don't block of gun barrels, have exhausts and cables going somewhere, etc... Two minutes of planning saves two hours of swearing!

Yeah, a model this big, especially one with legs, needs a solid internal structure - the last thing you want is for it to fall apart, either during play or transport.

As always with Orks the bigger the pile of random junk and whats its the better. And I dont mean just GW bits either. Junk drawers, garages, mechanics shops, cheap dollar store things, Chinese made tools and do-hickies....you name it. Then get how much plastic sheeting you think youll need and add 1 or 2 more sheets.

Now you need a general shape and bulk and go from there. After that the hard part is really inspiration and creativity to pull it off. Also hot glue. Youll want to do the bulk of the assembly with hit glue, itll hold better than super glue and adhere much faster. Save the super glue for finishing touches.
