Oops! Wrong forum, this belongs in Painting & Modeling.

With the imminent release of the Custodes I was wondering what different options or techniques you've seen or used to paint metallic armor that goes beyond variations of silver/gold.

I'm looking to avoid their standard gold scheme. A few things I've considered are the heavy oxidized bronze look, not just using Nihilakh as a light wash, but really go heavy on the green with the metal just coming through. That, or the blue gunmetal look where I believe you just wash silver with blue (please correct me on the technique).

I'd love feedback/opinions on those two styles, but I'm very interested to hear other ways to paint metal that would look unique. Basically, how would you paint a Custode army to make it stand out? Note: I know about non-metallic metal but I would prefer this to be an actual metallic.

I often paint metal using a mix of nmm and tmm. Currently one of my fav is storm vermin brown base layer with a light over brush of leadbelcher then some edge highlights using stormhost silver with n without washes, I do the same with browns, either dark for bronze/copper looks or sandy yellow for golds. I often find full metallic paint to be too glittery and non metallic metal to be a length process for a effect that only works well viewing the price in a set direction. So I find a hybrid works best.

There's always colored metallics as well. I'm not sure how well a candy apple red would go over on Custodes, but it's certainly an option.

Here's a great tutorial for painting gold in an unusual and less garish way.
