Besides the almost often ignorable VP from having Min. Sized units, is there any real reason to not just take each Spawn as its own unit? You can fufill an outrider detachment on 99 points alone, by far the cheapest option out of anything else in the codex. Is the ability to sync up buffs even a factor, or is even harder randomization from 3-4 rolls instead of 1 again, all but ignorable in the grand scheme?

Stratagems that buff them. And psychic powers. Those are the bigger reasons to take units in big numbers instead of MSU (And some bonuses for being more than X models like daemons have)

Yea you can do this for some "easy" CP, but like Galas said they wouldn't be super effective.
HOWEVER... spawn do make great speed bumps so if you need some of those it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yep, grouped units benefit from a single stratagem (which can be huge depending on the stratagem). Also with units combine you can "waste" more incoming wounds because you have to remove wounded models first.
If you have three Spawn and you get hit by three lascannons. You might have one Spawn on one wound remaining who takes a Lascannon round which does six damage and he basically wastes some of that damage. It's rare, but it can happen.
As you said though - it's not a bad thing to split them up for maneuverability and gaining CPs.

What stratagems would I honestly use on a spawn anyways? I can see psychic powers but even still, its rather a waste to use buffs on them when other much stronger stuff needs it more. Why warp time my screening moving distractions when I can buff my actual strong units?

You need a minimum of 3 spawn to be survivable. I usually take 4-5 per unit but I've dropped them in favor of Plague Drones for my Death Guard/Nurgle lists.
Im definitely gonna be starting a small Thousand Sons outrider with them though. Really hoping they would have gotten a pts drop, but I'm glad they still have a place.

The one where you pick the result is pretty damn good if you ask me. And then if Boon of Mutation can give them S/T/A they could be quite a powerhouse.

Watching your opponent's face drop as his 6 damage Lascannon/Melta shot is allocated to the guy with 1 would left is priceless.

Conversely, it's an advantage of squads that mix light and heavy weapons like Tactical Squads. You can chip away with the Bolters to take that 1 wound off, then switch to the lascannon for the next guy on full wounds.
