So, having just got the GW mailshot this morning, does anyone know anything about the new Necron Cryptek who appears to be plugged into his own personal hover-scarab?

Its just a Cryptek.

Disappointing!

Do you prefer resin crypteks?

So why does he have a hover scarab? Will that be a new Cryptek wargear option in the codex? I can't believe it is purely aesthetic.

I'm pretty sure they said something about new options for the Cryptek. So yeah, that's going to be wargear options (or at least a "Cryptek on a Hover Thingy")

If you want Cryptek, you can always model them on your own from Necron Warriors.
Just repose and give it a cc weapon.
No need to buy an expensive (clampack?) model.

I liked the varied Cryptech wargear options from the previous codex (i.e. various staves including a decent long ranged shooting option, and elemental themed power options) - though I note the Cryptech has what looks like a standard Staff of Light, which might mean there are not that many options under the current policy of "only options represented on the model in our standard kits". I also can't see how he would work without the scarab since it is bonded into his backpack, so maybe it will be a new unit ("scarotech" or something given the way current naming conventions are going) without any options. Maybe a flying cryptech to provide support for faster models.

When I field cryptechs, I keep losing them to snipers. Lychguard can stop that but are very expensive to escort a cheaper model...

Yeah I can see cryptechs being a good target for snipers.

I am really glad to see necrons coming soon. And dukahri, but necrons really need help.

True. But some us like to have nice looking minis
I'm converting a warrior into a tek right now (poorly. Its pretty barebones and I want to give it a robe to make it stand out, which is going to be a bitch to sculpt), and I still might pick up the new cryptek because it does look fun to paint. Well, the top half anyway. The bottom half is weird.

In the Q&A, it seems like they have a lot of changes planned for how the Necrons play... they seem to be increasing our mobility, and the hover scarab seems to be just one of the ways that they are going to do that.

As for the model itself, the cryptek isn't all that hot. Nice that it is in plastic, but I'm hoping that the hover scarab is an option for the Overlord as well. Seems a nice way to give us that Jetpack option that we've been asking for since... ever.

Wait, where is this?

As for spider taxis - Its an ok concept. I would have preferred teleportation as the primary way of transport, but its better than riding around in a vehicle like a pleb.

Not sure about the Cryptek model myself, but I'm all for a jump pack option. I mean, we even have a Lord sized jump pack bit on the Praetorians, but with GW's silliness that couldn't possibly be given to characters as an option...

Might make this poor fellow happy if his stuff wasn't just decorative:

Of course this new model is a Cryptek so the option will only be available to Crypteks, because... you know. Unless they redefine the Overlords sizable back shield as some kind of jump pack, too.

Overlords can already use CCB though for the extra movement.
And if they were jump infantry that would overlap too much with destroyer lords.

If that's your way of saying everything in 8th ed is so samey that three completely different units would end up playing the same, that's entirely on GW's designers for making it so. There's plenty of ways they could differentiate speedy HQs. But I guess I'm expecting too much if I want the designers to do their job.

Edit: Just to clarify, that's not anger at you or anybody else. Just resignation.

Some would certainly be free to hold that opinion.

But you need not worry. I refrain from being too critical of GW most of the time, so you'll likely be spared more of it.

Apparently, this has came from information gathered by those who attended the Q&A event, however I don't think it was recorded anywhere, so it's hard to verify the legitimacy of the claims.

I was speculating with a friend that 'crons will likely have a lot of teleportation Shinnegans. it'd fit the fluff and be a differant way to provide some mobility for the,

I wonder if we will lose the recurring reanimation protocols again. On paper it looks amazing but in practice it never seems to work out (enemys either focus your good units till they die, or just run around scoring objectives and ignoring blocks of tough infantry).

I'm not confident they can fix necrons without doing something about RP, whether it's a gut job or some refinement of the rule is to be seen though. Gauss is another aspect that probably needs to be looked at since the -1 AP isn't quite good enough to make up for the lack of special weapons. Still I'm keeping an open mind, they've know about the problems for most of a year, they have probably collected tons of community feedback, playtested a bunch of solutions, and settled on the ones they feel are best, which are probably not the ones I thought of.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.
