Hey all,

I'm going with my cheaper option of finishing out a BA/IG list and right now I'm running Lemartes, 2x 15 DC with 3 Hammers and everyone else has Bolter/Chainsword, a Sanguinary Priest with Jump Pack, 3 minimum scout squads with no upgrades. Before I throw all my Guard to fill out the list, how is Mephiston right now? With Wings of Sanguinius he can get up the board 19" to buff a squad with either Shield or Unleash Rage, not to mention his stats are pretty beatsticky.

I think using him to buff another squad is a waste of his talents. He should be used like a librarian dread; strictly self buff, move quickly, and destroy things.

Yes, Mephiston is very good his points. I would normally run him with Wings, Quickening and Unleash Rage.

I stand between the darkness and the light. Between the candle and the star.

He is fantastic for the points. He knows half the powers, he is an absolute beatstick with how durable he is, and he hits like a truck. Not quite as hard hitting as the Lib Dreadnought, but he has more and better denies, FnP, and is cheaper. He's a great model to send out and kill the one thing you want dead since he can cover so much ground with Wings of Sanguinius. As mentioned earlier, I'd look at using him primarily as a type of assassin unit rather than buff unit. He's way more geared out to beat something down than buff. Given the powers he has, it's still not a terrible idea to give him something like Unleash Rage in addition to Wings and Quickening. Sometimes you mean not need Wings and Quickening for what you're doing.

Just don't forget red rampage and the second tap stratagems.. If you really want to destroy!

Thanks for the replies all! I've been debating between Mephy and a Libby Dread. It sounds like they both are pretty nasty beatsticks. I'm also still debating between BA/IG or DG in a competitive meta FLGS. It's not top end competitive but there's plenty of IG, Nid, and Guillimans running around. I don't really want to play DG because I already have my tough army as Necrons but they're not too hot right now and there's no guarantee the Codex will fix that issue.
