So I was looking to start up another army something not imperium finally and not Chaos. The reason being I already have a few imperium armies (SM, SoB, and Inquisition) and I have a friend who's big into chaos, and we try not to overlap armies.

So I'm looking for something Xenos. an army that's highly customizable, and has a good bit of free fluff reign. I enjoy making my own stories and what not for all the armies I create. As far as Gameplay I'm a big fan of shooting however I wouldn't mind a little CC. Not looking for anything overly competitive and for this army I'm trying to keep it reasonable price wise. Probably $300ish to get to 1000-1500 points. So yeah if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears as I've been indecisive on this for awhile. Thanks!

Orks! If not overly competitive, there are lots of themes you could build your warband around. Like the different clans, or just a warboss or mek with a certain vision, like a pyromancer. The army screams for conversions, and is easy to get really unique looking.

Most fun I've had building an army, was with orks.

Brutal, but kunning!

Maybe wait till March and see what the Necrons codex has to offer? They're one of the shootier armies in the game (mostly mid/short range shooting but shooty nonetheless) and there's plenty of opportunity to customize your own dynasty with whatever theme you want (Necrons can vary wildly from the incredibly silly like Zandrekh or Trazyn to the grimdarkiest grimdark like the Maynarkhs). They're unfortunately the weakest army right now, to the point where they struggle mightily even in the most casual formats, but with a codex coming soon that'll hopefully change.

Tyranids are in a good place these days. Good model collection, the start collecting kit is all useful, a lot of freedom for a painter, solid codex with good internal balance. You can build a nid list in a variety of ways these days and be effective. A different feel to every other faction- no metallic bits, no tanks

Off the top of my head the only kits still in finecast are lictors, biovores, pyrovores, spore mines and the deathleaper.

Genestealer Cult are cool, but they are also one of the more expensive armies. Their boxes are seriously overpriced for what you get.

Orks and drukhari can be customized a lot. Everyone knows about converting orks but also grotesques, talos, cronos, beasts, trueborn, bloodbrides, incubi, and HQs can be converted quite well.

Gen cult and tyranids are very expensive since they're hard to convert and customize.

Thanks for the suggestions folks picked up some orks, found one of the old battleforce boxes at a very decent price and picked up Ghazghkull as well because I think he has a cool model. I may look into necrons once the new codex pops out and tyranids I may look back into at a future date I do admit I like the giant bug models lol.

They've announced that the next three codices will be Xenos so have a look at all three and pick one. From what you describe I think you'll enjoy Necrons. Perfect time to pick one of those and start collecting to get a jump on them in time for the codex.
