Hi guys,

I've been considering taking up 40k again after stopping when I started uni (in 2001....)

17 years later, and I see there is a new version out, so thought I might give it a bash. I still need to dig out my old models from my parents' garage, I have (had?) a quite large Chaos arming, that was primarily Khorne. I'm hoping I can strip back and repaint them - is it frowned upon to use such old models??

To get me back into the swing of things, and hopefully get a friend interested, I was thinking of picking up something like the £25 First Strike intro box. Do you think its worth doing?

Hello and welcome to Dakka!

Using old models is actually considered rather cool by many, though in some cases when there are larger differences between old and new aome people might object. This is mostly the case with those models that have had their base size change, such as Space Marines.

I would never have a problem with anyone playing old models against me, and if you've had them since they were new that's all the more awesome.

The First Strike box is value for money, but the Chaos models in it are Death Guard, Nurgle's marines. They may not be what you're looking for. I don't play Chaos myself, so I can't tell you how well they mesh ruleswise, but they can be played together. All Chaos models can be played together since they share that keyword.

The Space Marines, the other part of the box, are popular as ever and likely to be something a new player is interested in.

Good luck and have fun with the hobby!

EDIT: A large part of my Eldar models are from the 90's and still sold. You may find that some of your old models are still "current", GW can be kinda slow with the updates.

Well met, friend and welcome to this realm! Oldschool = koolschool.. those models are just so characterful and quaint! I would stick to eBay for secondhand models which are grand value for your gold... Have fun back in the hobby! Enjoy your ride.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
