Hey all,

I've got a tonne of screamer models hanging around and want to figure out the best way to use them. They are one of the fastest assault units in the game, fly and hit hard, but won't stand up to a stiff wind. The most obvious use is alpha striking with them (possibly with warp time to jump over screening units) to try and knock out a high value target. Bit given how expensive a unit of any decent size is and that they will get disappeared if you don't go first, makes me think again.

Anyone had good experience with screamers?

Hey Kaptin,

Warptiming them isn't an option I'm affraid since the power can only be cast on a Heretic Astartes unit IIRC.

However I think they have a place in a threat overload list. A Bloodletter-bomb turn 1 - possibly combined with a Warptimed Maulerfiend-charge and/or a Heldrake with some deepstriking Obliterators puts pressure on the opponent turn 1. Turn 2 the Screamers / Deamon Prince and assorted other nasty units join in. Could be fun and effective.

At the moment my list looks like this:
Daemon battalion:
LoC - IR
Bloodthrone
20 Bloodletters
3 Nurglings
10 Pink Horrors
7 Screamers
Burning Chariot
CSM Battalion
Nurgle Winged Daemon Prince
Jumppack Sorcerer
10 Cultists
10 Cultists
10 Cultists
5 Spawn
Maulerfiend
3 Obliterators
2000 points

In which the Screamers have a real place. Try them out.

Fiery the angels fell; deep thunder rolled around their shores; burning with the fires of Orc.

Armies:
Daemons: 5000+ points
CSM/Black Legion: 5000+ points
Deathwatch/Knights: 5000 points

I think the threat of Screamers probably comes from people not realising how hard they hit.

I doubt many will prioritise shooting them over a Greater Daemon or a Daemon Prince.

Oh yeah, still not used to chaos soup and warp time being restricted to only some of my army.

Threat overload sounds viable, I still think they will get wasted if the other person goes first, but will try them out.

A key question is how large to make the squad: 9 is very expensive and likely to take moral casualties (which really hurt at over 30 point a model), but small units are more resource intensive to buff and can get really neutered by taking a few stand and shoot wounds when charging. Are units of 6 bit enough to be scary and small enough to not be too bothered with moral?
