Hi Dakka,

I just finished this little beast today - it is part of an attempt to get over my minor vehicular anxiety (I simply don't enjoy painting flat panels). I could have done more to it but it was already a bit of a time sink plus there were issues I had with Retributor Armour spray.

The resin side panels are from Scibor miniatures, see the spoiler for the review/issues:
Spoiler:

Right then, the panels themselves are EU20 and all my orders with Scibor have arrived correct and pretty promptly with good quality casts. However the panels are a real pain to fit, especially with the lascannon mounts. You have to hack them aggressively to fit, taking off the upper supporting struts totally and cutting the parts connecting to the land raider right down in angular slices going in towards the Raider. This isn't for the faint of heart and my results were pretty rough and uneven - my inner Mekboy really surfaced. If you like the style I think they pimp up a Land Raider just fine, but be prepared to have many dry fittings etc - in short, they're a bit of a pig. You have to shave off rivets etc and if you want a perfect fit (unlike silly me) be prepared to use filler, sanding back etc)

A brief rant about Retributor Armour spray here:
Spoiler:

In all I learned a lot doing it - namely the limits of Retributor armour spray - in short it doesn't do large areas well, especially on kits as old as the Land Raider. The finish was rough even after I pre-undercoated it black. In hindsight a nice brown would have been the better choice I reckon but I think the rough patches would still remain. ALSO Retributor Armour spray is a different shade to Retributor Armour in the pot - it's much more, well, golden/richer in the pot. The spray is more like a mid gold - I used Dark Star Classic Gold which was luckily a perfect match. Finally the spray is a pain to paint over on the plastic, although the resin plates were fine.

The interior is painted to a basic standard though you can't really see it - but I know it's done which is what counts!

Thanks for looking

Hot damn.

It looked deceptively plain in the first shot but after getting a good view of those side panels it certainly lives up to the "venerable" qualifier.

Nice work on the paint job. I can definitely relate to your pain with base coat sprays going on smoothly.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Yeah the sides look fantastc... but then the top looks bald.

Oh my god I'm becoming martel.
Send help!

Yeah, that's kind of my point with vehicle panels. The resin side panels have bumpy bits so I can colour them in nicely. I could have added custom decals on top but it wouldn't really fit with the resin panels IMHO and my sculpting skills are zero.

My original plan was to use the extras from the Warhammer World Land Raider which would have sorted the top nicely but the trip didn't happen and I couldn't have it sitting there for much longer. I'm grateful for the experience though, I feel I can do much better next time a tank comes rolling my way.

Maybe you could add some custom scrollwork/filigree to the front/rear panels, depending on your level of comfort with freehand?

I wouldn't worry about the top looking "bald" per se; it makes sense that most of the ornamentation would be where it's visible to soldiers from ground-level.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
