Howdy, not had much time recently but have managed some progress..

Terrible pic but it shows where I'm at, just about ready to do the detailing and then weathering and basing..

The other has been drybrushed and blue lined and is ready for the other colours, doesn't look like a lot of progress but this is actually most of the donkey work done.

I really want to power these guys through and start on the IG stuff for our upcoming escalation league..hopefully I can find more time soon.

Looking slick, the conversions are negligible in terms of gameplay but the overall look of the vehicle/aircraft/skimmer/flyer? or whate ver is greatly improved.
You'll be all like froooom fzart zaaap zap pew all over the place when these puppies are done. x

How come you've not gone for any red on the pilot?
I've not got a problem with blue but red seems a bit more tech mariney?
I like the airforce insignia, really simple and makes complete sense.

I don't do my Techs in red, don't like it. My Librarian is in normal colours too (admittedly blue already), I think only Chaplains and Medics should be in variant armour. More just post RT prejudice of mine

I’m with you on using basic chapter colors on techmarines. If I wanted red marines, I’d paint Blood Angels. Silly new fangled paint schemes.

Talons are coming together nicely. How are you going to do the canopies?

Hope your boy feels better. Mine was home sick for half of last week. Kids these day!

Yeah stupid Blood Angles..

I was going to probably leave them clear. I was semi planning to get some Humbrol translucent painty stuff in a nice green and do the inside of the canopies with that, my Valk's windows are blue tacked in place to this day, however it never seemed to happen. I'm not sure I'll bother.

Well much less vomiting from the boy (yay) still basically no sleep last night however (boo), going to be a woozy day for me......

More Storm Talon goodness..

Added some fanged skull kill markings and a star logo I'll use on all my aircraft..

Added the press moulded FW Ultra logo (still Wip) all my vehicles have..there's a tiny warning label too, probably something like: 'Warning jet engines may be hot' etc..

Assault logo and another warning thingy..

I've actually finished it now, done the weathering etc, I'll post up the pics soon. I still need to the basing however. I'm thinking of doing an old derelict IG AA position across the 3 bases of my aircraft, it'll look nice on the shelf..still thinking about it..

I like the concept of a story told across bases. Make a little faux diorama. And the flight stands give you plenty of room. What’s the 3rd flyer? You talking about the IG side of the fence, or is there another Ultra bird out there I’m forgetting about?

Dunno if you want to try out some different canopy colours, I should have some spare storm raven canopies from that yogscast commission when you're done with yours. Or did I just give you the whole box with the extras?
Also got my tamiya clear red if you wanted to see how that looks.

Yes please those sandbags will make a nice ADL, I have some unexpected time off today so I think I'm going to forge ahead and make a start on the 2 flying bases. It's a very good idea to use the spare canopies (which I do have in that box of stuff) to test stuff out, I'd love to try that Tamiya Red. Is it from Antics? I'd like to try the green as well.

Weathering was done by stippling codex gray and then boltgun. I then drybrushed some areas with scorched brown. I did some washes next with argax and then my original formula brown which I used to do the streaks...

I wanted it to look real but not like it's been at the bottom of a swamp for 10,000 years..

I'm pleased with it in general, seen here borrowing the Valk's base..

Neeeoooowww, I dirtied up the downward thruster things after noticing them looking so clean in this pic...

For the Tamiya paints, I bought mine from E-models ltd (an ebay shop).
I paid a grand total of £2.55 inc postage for it so it's cheap as out of date silicone chips from them.
Turned up within a couple of days too.
You're welcome to borrow the red for a bit and they also do blue, yellow, orange and green.

I've found the sandbags,
An Aegis is about 20" long.
Each sandbag section is about 6" long so you'll need 4 or so.One is a little shorter and one is in a horseshoe.
I've got 9+ whatever ones we painted quickly for that game in total so I could spare 4-6 of them,
I've also got tonnes of Aegis line if you want to mix it up a bit?
Let me know what you want and when where we can meet in private for a sordid transaction.

I'd love a sordid transaction, I will see when I can get away. I'll def take the sandbags off you, they will look great and much more in keeping with my theme. Do Antics do Vallejo or similar as I could do with a few more basic paints too.

Yeah, they do 'Vallejo Model Colour' but not the 'Game Colour' range.
There's also my private stash and the boxes in The Duke if you, as a discerning Gentleman, might be after something specific with a little more age to it.

Sorry I've not been in touch been daft here, hope to get away sometime.

I have been able to paint a bit though..

Neeeow etc. Nose is annoyingly in shadow here..

This one is slightly dirtier (don't ask me how I know).

Sword thru U logo that I use on my Tyrannic War Vets, it links the units as they can be fielded as part of that Dataslate.

Starburst squadron logo again..

Unit number.

I'm pleased how these guys turned out, I've ordered some paints (as I just can't seem to get away ATM) including a 'Clear Green' so I might try that on my canopies.

Airpower.

I've started the scenic bases but stalled out due to lack of paint (on way now).

I've added some barbie wire now, note shallow grave..

'Right' side of derelict emplacement, the Stormraven's base will be the centre.

So this will be the last new thing I do for the SM for a while, I have taken pics of the existing units (from the 4th-5th era) and will showcase them across the next few updates. I the background I will be starting on the IG again for the escalation league that we're starting from the 1st so stay tuned for that...I'll do a recap of what SM stuff I actually managed to complete and what's still left, as well as a few 'all on the shelf pics'. I'd also really like to do a 2k games vs the omnipresent Nids to try out some of my new stuff, I'll do a BatRep if ths happens.

Glad you like them, still waiting on a paint supply drop but my Tamiya clear green arrived! Do you clean brushes after using it just with water or do you need heavy solvents etc?

Whilst we are waiting for the bases to get done here are some pics of stuff I've already completed, I'll show the remainder of the vehicles first.

Here's my Razorback, built and painted after the 5th ed book, +5pts on a normal rhino seemed pretty good. I always had my ML/FL (the classic load out) Tack in this. The Rocket launcher half sat in cover whilst the flamer half went forward with the Captain on board.

Still needs a name, answers on a postcard. Note the handle, it bothered me the entire 10 men couldn't ride in it so I figured a few could ride on top and a couple more could hang on the sides.

There's a little tank on the back here for the flamer to top up on promethium. More spare track (also IG in origin, shhhh).

4 is the number of the Tacks who ride around in this guy. More battle damage too as this isn't the posh Captain's rhino.

Brrrrruuuuuuuummmm.

I also painted the bits to convert it into a basic Rhino, which it will probably see more use as in this day and age.

That's it for now, more sooner or later..

More stuff..

This is the first vehicle I did for this army, back in the day when the only GW whirly was the 'Crayola Launcher'. FW then released this kit (and it featured in DoW) and I was well pleased by it (back in the days before they just beat on the HH cash cow). The little plaque and the 'U' with skull (that all my vehicles get) is from the FW Ultramarine logo pack. It's also short of a name, any suggestions gratefully received!

Pew pew pew. Had a lot of fun shelling Xenos with this over the years, it's been devastating on occasion. Sadly sidelined by the new kid on the block the 'Thunderfire' which outperforms it considerably.

Still it will always have a special place in my second heart.

Again painted in the 4th ed era, the basic Landspeeder. Also a past favourite it mostly languishes on the shelf these days.

I have another still on sprues I plan to build as a Rockety one (Typhoon?) and I plan to snap off the HB here and transplant it to the new one and replace it with a MM. I also have a 'pre loved' Landspeeder Storm to do...

Here endeth all my completed vehicles, still have a bunch to build/paint *sigh*

I've some shots of my existing infantry too, Scouts, Tack, and Termies so I'll do those over the next few days.

I feel bad for whirlwinds. The TFC is just better 90% of the time. But it’s an classic piece of marine hardware. And sometimes you still need to HB/flamer a pie plate’s worth of gibbles from way over there behind a hill. On the bright side, it costs peanuts (in points, not cash) but eating a whole HS slot for one little tank is not the best in any reasonably sized list still using the FOC.

I have a lot of fun with my TML/HB speeders. Best loadout IMHO. If you are going to mod that one, have you considered 2xHF? I own and field a HF/MM speeder (ancient chunk of lead that it is) and still field it from time to time. While the diverse weaponry doesn’t take advantage of the ability to fire both weapons effectively at the same target while on the move, it is very flexible. Which is the classic Ultramarine trait.

This is my feeling on it exactly, it's like they dropped the pts to 65 because they new no one would pic them anymore

It was always my trademark unit and it seriously kicked arse for me over the years, I still plan to bust it out on games over 2k and I have a half completed original Rhino conversion Whirly lying around too. That makes the lethal Apoc Formation (2 Whirlies and a Speeder).

I know what you mean about the Speeders, I found myself really liking the mixed role loadout, great against troops or tanks. I look forward to the Torando(?) variant too.

Thanks! Pollyfilla. Its cheap as chips and works great. If you go back through the thread there's some nice ones (if I say so myself etc) on some Sentinels and the Valkyrie.

Lovely stuff.
Don't know if it's too late but yeah, ordinary water, from a tap, faucet or in a jam jar, old pint pot, mung vase or any other water tight receptical will do fine for washing the tamiya clear paints.
It's water soluble too so you can thin it, mix it or whatever for other crazy effects of you ever want to do slime or something.
I don't know if you shape your brushes with your mouth, I do, and the stuff tastes horrible so it's probably best to wash out under a tap or change water afterwards!

Slime is an interesting idea too.....
