Hey all,

I was looking through the army lists from the top 8 in the recent LVO tournament, and had a question I was hoping someone could help me out with. Some of the lists (the imperium lists, specifically) seem to have way less anti-tank than I'd expect in a 2000 points army.

Now, the two with blood angels are less difficult to wrap my head around, because with the Red Thirst you're able to whittle down tanks with pretty much anyone in melee. Still though, there were ZERO lascannons in the top 8. Alexander Fennels Valhalla/SW/BA list had 2 THs, 3 PFs, and 2 Frost swords- which seems very little and only the thunder hammers are on models with Fly (to fly over screens, etc).

Obviously I'm missing something, because I can't imagine dropping my AT guns just because I had a handful of melee hammers/fists.

I couldn't find any videos of the top 8 matches, but if anyone knows where I can look at those I'll take that in place of/in addition to a bit of schooling. Thanks!

The executions will continue until morale improves

They weren't expecting a whole lot of tanks that they couldn't tie up in perpetuity.

If you bring an anti-tank unit and an anti-horde unit in a melee list, and your opponent brings six basilisks and a hundred guardsmen, your one anti-horde unit wont kill the guardsmen and your anti tank unit won't ever make it to the tanks.

Bring two anti horde units and you can chew through the guardsmen and engage the tanks, essentially killing them because they will never shoot the rest of the game.

The only exception? Flyers. Hence the thunder hammers on models that fly.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

And other competitive lists have tons of anti tank. Eldar usually spam dark reapers, which are basically an anti tank unit. AM also brings a considerable amount of anti tank.

All prior comments 100% spot on - also LVO lasted 3 turns on average and there is very little need to aim to table your opponent. So you have a 200+ point predator you are going to sit in the back? Ok I will focus on objectives and killing other units / my secondaries.
