Another very noobish question;
I ordered the little "Get Started with WH40k" book from the GW website and it comes with a free primaris model. I've noticed the actual space wolves have aesthetic differences from their "normal" brothers. And I'm not sure if the Wolves even accept primaris units in-universe...but could I paint this guy with Wolf colors without it being a horrendous heresy?

I would wait. Blood Angles and Dark Angles (the other 2 "get their own codex chapters") got a new primaris box that came with an upgrade sprue with extra bits to make them more in line with their own chapters aesthetic.

I expect that when SW get their new codex it will come with a new package of primaris with their own upgrade sprue. If you paint it now you will wish you had those bits on it later.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Or just add some bits from the SW sprues. Easy to add a wolf tail to a gun or a knife to the belt. Makes them a little cleaner and less busy than some of the SW troop models.

I have tweaked some of the Dark Imperium Hellblasters, and I am painting them as Space Wolves. I am planning to make a few changes, so for the pack markings I am just going to use Runes rather than the normal SW marks. I will probably just give them the standard Ragnar left shoulder pad until I see the codex to decide what Great Company i am running.

As for making them look more wolfy...

(apologies for the horrendous looking paintjob, I was ill when I was painting these guys)

Normal SW heads fit onto the Primaris bodies, meaning if you have a SW pack lying around the 60000 heads they give you in the box work well. You can also add extra wolf tails and bits, as well as using some of the other items to customise the backpacks. There are also some knives you can strap to a thigh pad to make it look like they have an extra CC weapon, always a good idea for a SW!

As for the Primaris and Space Wolves as a whole, there is apparently a SW Primaris chapter, though how close they are to the main wolves is unclear. Apparently they were left on a moon to guard something, and are pretty grumpy about not heading off to a fight!
