With most of the projects that I paint, my clients only send me a few units at a time. This works fine, of course, except that I rarely get to see the whole army together.

So I've decided to make a series of posts featuring some of the armies I've done over the years. I've decided to start out with one of the first projects that I got to do- the Storm Lords Space Marines. Most of them I painted quite a while ago, and I didn't get pictures of every mini I painted, but this should give you a decent impression of the army.

I don't remember when I painted any of these in particular (I know I didn't get any photos of the very first batch of them). So here they are, in no particular order.

And before anyone mentions it- this force uses the yellow helmets, following the fluff that suggests that they follow a White Scars style organization rather than following the codex organization.

They look pretty good. I considered doing a small Storm Lords force before realizing they were White Scar descendents/competitors. I do prefer a much darker/starker yellow to really strongly contrast with the red/white though. The paler yellow doesn't work for me on these guys.

They've got a tricky color scheme to compose- it is pretty easy to get carried away with the bright colors and end up with a really gaudy scheme.

I decided ti ring in the yellow a bit, which is what led me to the less vibrant yellow you see here (it has the same shading as the warm white- specifically to keep it from being too stark).

I'm planning on doing a squad of Stormlords for myself (Space Crusade). I've been thinking of trying to get a more saturated version of them working (I suspect that I'll need to reign in the colors with some glazes).
