Hey all,

I've been in 40k since like the early 90s and probably only played like 20 games ha. I have been Chaos since the begining and now switched to 1k sons cause they have been my favorite since the 90s of the chaos codex.

The question I have is probably a simple one and sorry if this is in the wrong forum section.

When I cast smite on a unit say with Magnus and i roll a 12 so i do 2d6 mortal wounds to that unit. If I roll an 8, do I do 8 mortal wounds to 1 model or do I basically kill 8 space marine unit. My brother and I fought over rules nonstop so be good clarification. He thought it was broken that I just 1 shot a squad with Magnus with 1 power.

Thanks!

p.s ( does a unit mean all the models or is unit just a single model in a quad. Thanks!)

Yes, when Magnus smites for 8 mortal wounds, that means 8 wounds lost for the targeted unit. If the models each has 1 wound, then eight models are killed.

Here is the long version.

In 8th you roll to wound, then you allocate that wound to a model. That wound deals a certain amount of damage. The damage from a single wound does not bleed over to other models. So a 6 damage shot from a las cannon would kill a single space marine.

However, mortal wounds have no wound roll. Mortal wounds wound automatically and each one deals 1 damage individually.

That means each mortal wound gets assigned to a model one at a time. So a psychic power that deals 8 mortal wounds will have each of those 8 MW assigned to a model 1 at a time and dealing their damage before moving on to the next MW, thus killing 8 single wound models.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
