Hey all,

Long time since I’ve posted a list but I’ve got myself into a doubles tournament bringing my BA to support a friends ultra smurfs army. We have to take 1k each and with my lack of experience in 8th I’m really looking for any advice on what to do with either army:

UM - Patrol Detachment

Captain in Gravis Armour
Boltstorm gauntlet - master crafted power sword

5x intercessors squad
Stalker bolt rifle, auxiliary grenade launcher

5x intercessors squad
Auto bolt rifle, auxiliary grenade launcher

5x tac squad
Thunder hammer

Redemptor dreadnaught
2x grenade launchers, heavy flamer, heavy gattling cannon, Icarus rocket pod

5x hellblaster squad
Plasma incenrators only

Stormhawk interceptor
2x assault cannon, las-talon, skyhammer missle launcher


BA - battalion detachment

Captain Hammer/Slamguinius

Libby
Jump pack, force sword

5x Scout squad
5x sniper rifles

5x scout squad
Sarge with Boltgun
4x sniper rifle

5x tac squad
4x Boltgun
1x Heavy Bolter

6x death Company with Jumppack
1x thunderhammer

6x death Company with Jumppack
1x thunderhammer

6x death Company with Jumppack

1x Razorback
Twin Lascannons, Storm Bolter.

So BA are focused on close combat with some supporting fire and scouts picking out targets of opportunity, whilst the UM provide some of the heavy fire support. With the jump packs I’m hopeful that death Company can grab some objectives before holding down any opponents and my friend feels his army should be able to hold any objectives they take.

But like I said at the start, any advice and critique would be greatly appreciated by this old veteran to help me avoid falling flat on my face!

Not sure I follow the logic of the thunder hammer on the tac squad? Also if he can trim enough points for the second hq he is almost at a battalion which would benefit his comand points alot.

I’ve mentioned about the battalion to him but he didn’t seem concerned about the CP, think I’ll discuss it with him more tomorrow. I suggested an Lt as his second HQ for the re-rolls on the hellblasters for example.

He’s thinking about switching out the TH for a Heavy Bolter as the tacs are just too slow for it to be any use.

Take this with a grain of salt as I don't use primaris personally but
Ditch the gravis armour on the captain a bolt storm gauntlet shouldn't be getting used if he is a buff captain, sanctic halo gives him a deny the witch.

Ad a primarus lt

Give the cap and the lt master craftef stalker boltguns the cap a power sword

Keep the intercessors stock bar the 1 aux grenade launcher its 1pt why wouldnt you.

Swap the tacticals for sniper scouts potentially with heavy bolter mileage varies.

The rest should be able to pull some wieght. But marines are definatly not a top tier codex this edition

I’ve played BA for a long time, I’m used to not being top tier

Is it worth finding the points for camo cloaks on the scouts? Say drop some thunder hammers from DC or something like that?

Blood Angels are in a good place right now, they got some nifty wargear with their codex and have placed well at large tournaments, most of the competative lists are adding other things like guard in and making an army of the imperium as 8th edition loves soup. You should have a look at some of the wargear for your BA as you list is pretty good but could be real painful with some of no ovetwatching jumppack etc, also the way stratigums work it's often better to have one large unit of wreck face you can stratageum than many msu's. Msu's are fot the supper squishy troops. It will also help your deployment count and make it more likely you might get that plus one for first turn roll of.

I’m thinking the 12 DC go with Cpt Hammer and the 6 escort the libby across the board. Scouts pick off targets of opportunity.

UM currently thinking the interceptor and razorback hit anything big, can I get anything more efficient for the razorback points?

Aggressors push to midfield and whittle down any large blobs of troops, intercessors and snipers pick off what they can and Lt and Cpt give re-rolls to some of his units.
