Im getting back into 40k stopped playing around 6th and stopped buying around 5th (no manticores, wyverns, etc)
Played a few games and was wanting some suggestions for a take all list (mostly SM and custodes at my GW and mainly play maelstorm).

Plan is special wepons and HQ's in Chimmeras running around with hell hounds to grab the far out objectives or to remove their support units. Rest of army fire support and sit on objectives on my side of the table. I have plenty of Ig to swap out if other moddels are better but I was wanting a non cheese list mainly just for casual/semi competitive games with local people.

I think you will do well with this list. The only thing I think this list really needs is a priest. I would also consider a bodyguard since your guardsmen rely on characters to be good. All you'd need to do was remove one chimera.

How do you deal with vehicles? According to your meta you're facing Custodes (not a problem -for now) and SM, which can have heavy-armored lists. How do you counter them?

The lemanrusses with BC and Lascannons do a solid job of that so far.

Trim some here or there for a Patrol detachment of SM scouts. Initial infiltration and board control is important in 8e.
