I'm thinking of trying out the T'au models for fun. I don't know the firat thing about their weaponry, and I know a new Codex soon are gonna be released. But I just want to model and paint a few. Does the package contain some directions to how to assemble them?

All GW boxes come with detailed assembly directions.

I don't play T'au but my friend does. Pathfinders come with a mix of rifles and in a variety of poses.

They don't seem too hard to assemble or paint from what I can tell.

You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

Don't worry, the instructions tell you which is which.

You get mostly carbines with markerlights but also some rail and ion rifles. These definitely look cool but are not that useful most of the time.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Thank you both! I'll buy the box of Pathfinders since they're really cheap (270 SEK compared to a box of Fire Warriors at 360 SEK)

If you are starting fresh with Tau I would also pick up a Start Collecting Box to go along with your Pathfinders. This will get you a box of Firewarriors, Crisis Suits, and an Ethereal which can be converted to a Cadre Fireblade should you decide to try and save some money.

Pathfinders are a good Markerlight platform, but you will still need Firewarriors in an army to fill up you Troop slots. Pathfinders sit in the back and support the rest of your army, as they have to choose between shooting Markerlights or Carbines (or Special Weapons), but can't do both. The Carbines never get used as Firewarriors perform that role better with an extended range if you go with Rifles.

They come with the option for 3 Rail Rifles and/or 3 Ion Rifles, as well as 3 drones (Pulse Accelerator, which increases pulse weapon range, Grav Inhibitor, which reduced enemy charges, and Recon Drone, which has a Burst Cannon). Full instructions are included.

Rail Riflesr weapons with medium-high STR and good AP. Good for shooting low toughness vehicles or killing marine equivalents.

Ion Rifles are high STR and low AP, and can be overcharged to get D3 shots with higher STR and a chance to do a Mortal Wound - inferior to plasma weapons, but slightly longer range. Great for high toughness units with medium armor saves like light vehicles.

If you can find it, the Optimized Pathfinder Team box set also comes with a Devilfish at a discount., but GW no longer makes this set.

The Start Collecting Tau boxed set is indeed the best value set, but Pathfinder boxes are still a good value!
