which is better?

A equal points team of lascannon havocs vs a lascannon predator

A predator with autocannons and heavy bolters vs a equal points team of havocs with heavy bolters?

Are teams of havocs with 4 autocannons even viable?

Its kinda tricky lascannon pred:

4 lascannons - 190pts
con: only 3 targets
con: highly susceptible to dmg2+ weps
con: susceptible to close combat
con: shot BS degrade if takes damage
pro: t7 11 wounds... very good vs light fire
pro: more manoverable
pro: no ld issues
pro: can be used for LOS blocking

7 havocs 4 lascannons - 191pts
con: highly susceptible to light arms fire
con: can be susceptible to leadership
con: not as manoverable
pro: 4 targets
pro: easier to get cover
pro: vets of long war strat + other inf strat/legion/psy buffs (slaanesh double tap comes to mind)
pro: some bolter shots for what its worth

Its pretty hard to call, i think a lot of it comes down to play style and the rest of your army.

you'd literally never take heavy bolter havocs when you can rock quad heavy bolter rapiers from FW... they are just awesome.

Latro_ covered it well, they're both going to be doing a lot of lascannon shooting, and so it depends on what you want out of them. I tend to prefer the predator, since I can deploy it out in the open and have it behave as a little LOS blocking bunker.

I have a 5 man havoc squad with 4 Autocannons, formerly Death Guard in 7th with the Traitor Legions book.

Nowadays I use them if i have an extra 125 pts, or need to fill in a Spearhead detachment.

Theyve never been spectacular in my games, but also contribute in their own way. Its one more backfield unit to negate Deepstrikes, and since most of my army is fast and advances, its good to have one unit camping an objective. They are either ignored all game, or targeted early.

This has been debated a few times before. There's no clear winner.

I like Laspreds because they have more wounds and better armor. There's also the Killshot Stratagem, which is awesome.

The one argument I've heard for Havocs is that you can put them in a Bastion. Take 2 squads with 4 Lascannons each and you have a firing point covering most of the battlefield (plus an Icarus lascannon.) Your opponent needs to chew through 20 wounds on a T 10 model before it can touch your troops.

You can only put one unit (plus additional characters) in a building at a time.
