Subject: What chapter / legion would you go with?

I purchased a lot on ebay of marines recently and have just received them. Honestly I bought the lot because it came with an awesome terrain feature and was a great deal, not because I wanted the marines. I was thinking of doing a blood angels army with them originally but now that I have them I am not so sure, I don't think they would make a good BA army, or at least not without a lot of additional purchases which I am not looking to do right now.
This is what I have.
1X Captain / Leader
2X Leutinants
1X Banner Carrier
1x company champion
1x Chaplain w/ jump pack
5 assault marines
5 scouts
15 tactical marines w/ bolters
5 tactical marines w/ flamers
3 tactical marines w/ melta guns
2 tactical marines w/ plasma guns
1 tactical w/ missile launcher
1 tactical w/ plasma cannon
1 venerable dreadnought w/ plasma cannon and ccw
1 razorback w/ twin laz cannon
1 drop pod.
I am looking for a semi competitive army, but I want fluff more for this army, I have others that focus on competition. This is a side project that I can grab and just play some games while drinking a beer with friends more than for taking to a tournament or anything. But I don't want a push over army. I am willing to spend a bit more on it for a few key units if I need something to make it work right. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

I'd go for Ravenguard, purely on the basis Corax was / is a boss.

If you want it to be more personal, you could always strip it down and convert it into a Chaos Warband and just try out different flavours of chaos (Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh) as and when you feel like it.
It'll be far more interesting from a hobbying aspect and chaos has so many fun builds right now.

Salamanders basically always work fine, even more so if you like high damage, single shot weapons like meltas and lascans.
And personally I like He'stan both as a datasheet as well as the model, he makes meltas/flamers even more viable.

Ultimately this is what you should do, however you still need to chose a Chapter/Legion Attribute for rules pruposes. But making your own Chapter/Warband gives you the flexibility to change your mind later I'm afraid I'm not very good at multiple choice and chose "all of the above": -

I agree with what has been said above: create your own chapter and use whatever chapter tactics suits you the best.
Currently, Raven Guard (for -1 to hit) and Ultramarines (Guilliman + disengage and shoot) are the strongest ones.

I already have a Salamander and space wolf army, and am working on a ravenwing army (I have issues I know). I am liking the idea of ultramarines, though the idea of a blood angels captain with lightning claws, angels wing, and warlord trait for +1 to the dmg output on the claws seems very tempting to me.
Still, from an army pov, the idea of falling back and using flame throwers is damn tempting. Also I have always liked the scythes of the emporer, who use ultra tactics.
Mmmmm choices. But I thank you all for your suggestions. I will probably go ultra marine, haven't actually used them since 3rd edition before they had rules that made them special. :p
Also tyrnaid wars vets are cool.

I'd say going for a first founding chapter is pretty much the most boring thing you can do with a group of marines, especially the Salamaders as they are a bunch of goodie two shoes who hug humans!
Marines are gene forged monsters whose only purpose is killing, go for a Chapter that does them justice like the Executioners or the Flesh Eaters.

White Panthers!
They are a chapter that gets very little attention. The colour scheme is good, but hard to paint. I am somewhat biased as this is the chapter I collect, and it would be great to see more of them in actions.
As their founding is unknown, you can use any chapter tactic you fancy, including Blood Angels and Dark Angels.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused. |

BloodRavens are similarly ambiguous. Their founding legion could be anyone from Ultras to even T-sons

Yeah, if you're not set on a colour scheme, male up your own. You can use whichever tactics you like, even changing from one to another when building different lists. Could be a good way to go if you maybe want to try out specialist units from different chapters.

Interesting, never heard of the white Panthers.
I will have to look into their history. It's one of the reasons back in the day I liked the scythes of the emporer, there wasn't much known about them at the time past they were wiped out by the hive fleet. Now that's been rewritten that some survived I find them less interesting.
