For anyone who primarily uses storm troopers for an army or is fond of them as allies, would you recommend taking them in 5 man or 10 man units?

5 man it's the best I think, 10 man turns them into a juicy target and very vulnerable to morale.
That said an argument can be made for a 10 man hotshot lasgun gunline with FRFSRF

Mostly 5 man suicide plasma squads, but I agree with the above - there is some utility for 10 man squads with some morale support, but at that point I'd be using them strictly for Rapid fire and not so much special weapons. Once you add in specials on top of 10 guy the unit it too pricey for my tastes.

I run them as 5 man squad, just because I deep strike them and I found it's the size that maximizes their efficiency.
But if you're going to build a gunline, maybe a 10-men squad is better.

10 man is best for:
- order efficiency
- stratagem efficiency
- special weapon protection (5 bodies to a plasma weapon vs 2 bodies to a plasma weapon)
5 man is best for:
- plasma saturation (1x10 is 1 plasma pistol, 2x5 is 2 plasma pistols)
- morale resistance
- overall squad protection (forces someone to try to optimally split fire and so over/underkill is more likely)

5-man squads are also easier to place when deep striking... they have a smaller footprint, can more easily land in cover, and are less likely to be crowded out by 9-inch bubbles. I've had some good luck peeling off just one or two models from a backfield screening unit with my start of turn Act of Faith shooting attacks (heavy bolters have the range, RoF, and punch to do just that) and then fitting a 5-man into the remaining gap between 9-inch bubbles where I'd never be able to squeeze more. It has made the difference between targeting HQs vs screening troops with order-enhanced plasma fire and has been a total game changer.
