I'm putting together a BA detachment to provide some mobility and support to my AM army, and am trying to decide whether to build it around death company or sanguinary guard. If I'm set on using AM as my warlord, do SG become over costed without rerolls?

Maybe a bit.

SG are pretty good at killing anything with good saves and multi-wounds. It's true that they prefer getting the re-rolls but even without them they do D3 damage per wound, usually wound on a 4+ at worst and have -3 save modifier. For a hard-hitting unit to remove characters or 2-3W units they're pretty good, but maybe a bit pricey.

I would say DC don't really do anything AM can't already do since their main use is clearing out large numbers of medium-light infantry. DC do it in combat while AM do it with shooting. I think the SG will provide more utility since they cover a weakness of your army.

I wouldn’t run my SG without a BA warlord. They’re expensive and a warlord provides buffs beyond rerolls (which is an ability I’m sure you’re paying points for).

All you get is reroll 2s at the cost of having a warlord deep strike. A captain gives rerolls of 1s already. Making it your warlord is really not required to be effective, and can take a jump pack for less than 20 points.

But, you can make a libby your warlord, get rerolls from a model that normally can't provide them, and then unleash rage on the SG for maximum stabbing. And give the libby the relic pack and wings over to soak overwatch.

Yep, 30 power fist attacks hitting on 4s, rerolling 1s and 2s, with a 3d6 charge is nothing to sneeze at.

Seems like if you are going to run them they should have the Warlord.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Exactly. Or a SG Ancient with relic banner so you reroll misses, 1s to wound, and get a 5+++. In addition to whatever your warlord trait is; extra deny to protect them from Smite, fearless for a unit of 10, etc.
