I played a very similar list this week, only 1000 points though. My dreadnoughts took the win for me. I know its not a tournament worthy list, but it is fun to play.
Main question, if I were to drop one of the regular dreadnoughts, which one? And what to replace him with? I have all devastator weapons, regular terminators, 5x snipers, and a horde of power armor.
My next opponent is either bringing IG, NIDs, or CSM. The list does pretty well against IG, because the opponent has to focus fire on one or two threats per turn, giving my dreads the opportunities to wreck havoc. I added the cataphractii and company veterans to deal with CSM. The veterans damage output is pretty good for the price, plus with the chaplain for failed combat hit re rolls. All of the assault cannons and gatlings should be able to put a decent dent into a NIDs swarm, but I have never played against them.
I get 5 CP from this list. 3 CP spent to make the captain. A chapter master. 2 CP spent to put company veterans and chaplain in SFTS.

I have a couple thoughts/questions about that list. Please keep in mind I am by no means a porfessional army list reviewer like a couple other dudes here, but still... I guess any input is good input (:
First off, maybe this is a personal thing, but I am not a huge fan of the burning blade. Sure, the +2 S and hefty -5 AP sure is nice, but in my eyes, only one Dmg really holds it back. I suggest you drop the grav pistol on the Company Vets and some other things and get yourself a Relic Blade. The AP is still rather nice, you get the same strength and some more damage. It does cost you some more points, but you get to hold onto another CP.
Next up, I don't really see the point of the Cataphractii. Do you deep strike them and hope to get the 9" charge? Here I am just curious as I have absolutely no experience with these guys.
Company Vets seem nice, though I guess they are rather squishy, even with the Raven Guard chapter tactics. Don't know what to do with them, really, just wanted to note that.
The dreads do look intimidating. Nice firepower with also rather good survivability. Since you are so keen on these things, why not throw in a Techmarine to keep them running, especially the dreads whose stats change with wounds lost?
Anyways, my two cents here. Once again, these are just some random thoughts I had. Hope that helps nonetheless!

The main issue I would say is generic power armour isn't is a great place imho. Vanguard vets, sternguard, have strats and loadouts that put them in a better place but with -1 to hit and a lot of dreadnaughts your maximising your chaptor tactics well. Personally I would have gone vanguards vets and jumppacks for the increased mobility and inbuilt deepstrike over company vets. Not sure what your getting from the terminators but they are slow and overpointed so what they bring to the table. But if it works it works.

Lum, thanks for the feedback. I will try to answer your questions in order
Burning blade, point noted, every time I field it I usually only get to use it once. It does seem like a waste.
The cataphractii, I have only used them once, and I put them in SFTS to avoid that 9" charge. I just want to see how they perform. The one time I used them they didn't do much besides draw a lot of fire away from my gun line.
Company veterans, I will be building them this weekend, maybe I will use them, maybe not. I just enjoy building unique looking models and then fielding them. I have a lot of bits that I have been dying to use. The power swords I plan on using are all unique. But you are correct, 3+ save and only 1 wound does make them squishy. The plan was to drop them in with thw terminators as a small fire support and melee support. I was hoping that the ap on the power weapons helps killing CSM if my opponent decides to bring them. What would you suggest as a replacement? Devastators, or I also have a 5 man assault squad...
The Redemptor is definitely my favorite aestheticly, but the contemptors take the cake on the table. I just love fielding dreads.
I don't have a techmarine... YET. I will definitely look into getting one.
Again, thank you for the input.

Ok, gotcha, especially on the Company Vets. I, too have about 20-30 Veterans/Sergeants/Special dudes with all sorts of power weapons, power fists or power hammers. I just love builiding those guys^^

Here are the adjustments I made. Again thanks for the input.
I dropped the cataphractii and was able to add:
5 man assault squad 5x bolt pistol, 4x chainsword and a power axe
Devastator squad with 1 plasma cannon and 1 heavy bolter and a cherub
Give the chaplain a jump pack and ravens fury relic
My 5 cp will be spent like this: 3 CP to make the captain a chapter master, 1 CP to put vetereans in SFTS
The chaplain will be my warlord with the silent strike trait, denying overwatch and rerolling failed charges.
The main thing I liked about the cataphractii was the wound rerolls granted by the lightning claws. If my opponent brings tyranids then I may still take the cataphractii instead of the veterans... Automatically Appended Next Post:

okay...
Dread spam does seem to be viable in 8th; and this set up looks strong. the dreads will do what you're expecting them to.
the rest of the list however, I would take into consideration. terminators are notoriously expensive for what they do. using a stratagem *does* increase their viability; but now you've go to pay command points and regular points... just think carefully about whether the fire they're drawing from the dreads is worthwhile?
2nded on the burning blade. I like it as an assault deterrent for small castles but honestly you have several dreads with close combat weapons.... charging your gunline would be ballsy to say the least.
the company vets are an interesting one for me... I like the concept but mannn is that a lot of gear for 5 3+sv single wounders... I have a large collection of space marine "heroes" that're tooled up... I indulge that urge to build badass single minis by fielding them as sgts when we play power level...
A techmarine would make more sense than the lieutenant in this list, but for now it'll be fine.
hope this helps?

Gamerguy, given all of the comments here agree about burning blade, I am dropping it in favor of ravens fury for the chaplain.
My next purchase will probably be a techmarine, or two. I dont have one yet so its not viable for this list right now.
If I drop the veterans I have 180 points to play around with... What would you suggest? I could sub in two devastator squads with one lascannon each, but no cherub. Or one with lascannon and one with missile launcher for versatility. That would give me 3 Devastator squads in total, with 3 hq so I can squeeze out another CP by making a spearhead detachment.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Given the feedback I have made some drastic changes: it will be one spearhead and one vanguard detachment.
HQs
Captain with master crafted boltgun and relic blade
Lieutenant with chainsword and bolt pistol, bc they are free
Elites
Dreadnought with assault cannon
Dreadnought with missile launcher and twin lascannon
Redemptor Dreadnought
Contemptor Dreadnought with kheres assault cannon
Relic Contemptor Dreadnought with kheres, twin autocannon, and cyclone missile launcher
Heavy support
2x devastator squads with 2x lascannon 2x missile launcher, 2x plasma cannon and regular marines to fill up on ablative wounds
1x devastator squad with 1x heavy bolter that will walk with the Dreadnoughts.
I thinks its funny how a Devastator squad and a tactical squad have the same base cost but I can get a +1 on my hit roll for one guy...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Any advice on relics?
