I'm just rummaging through my bitz box, and I'm seeing lots of large, flat panels that come in Chimera-sized tanks kits - what ARE they? They're not needed for the assembly, have an angle bit on one of the long edges which means they can't just be stuck on the side of a tank - the only thing I've considered as a use for them is as track guards for the top level of track, but even then, there's only one per kit, I think.

Does anyone actually know what they're for?

Spoiler:

this?

IIRC that is the ass end of a basilisk which uses the chimera hull.

Yes, very much like that - all of mine seem to have a small-ish space missing in the middle of the angled part though.

What is it actually for?

Thank you!

Assuming older chimera kits, with the separate track stowage, that is the bit that connects to where the chimeras rear door usually goes (edit: when building basilisks and other artillery) and supports the gun floor. Not sure if still present in new kits, but if it is, it likely has the small notch as a locating aid during assembly. Small end down, rivets out. If not making artillery, its extra.

It's, as Vejut said, meant for when building a Basilisk, as the gun platform goes on the upper set if incuts on the side of the track units, followed by this piece closing in that section and a couple of bars that are meant to fit into that angle and run under the gun platform to look like reinforcement bars.

Lots of people use them as extra armor under the front of tanks.
