How well do sentinels function as screens?

While they're more expensive then infantry, does their extra durability help them fill the role? I'm looking at something to cover a mostly armored list.

Also, scout sentinels vs armored sentinels. Is the scout move and lower price better then the higher armor save? I'm looking at arming with multi-lasers to keep them otherwise inexpensive.

Arashen, Segmentum Pacificus

Depends on the mobility of the character you’re screening for if the scout variant is in play.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

They aren't that good for price/durability/footprint. What works in their advantage is scout move allowing you to push 1st turn deepstrike bubble even further thus making them useful enough brigade fillers.

Note, this only works against opponents who do not have marine scouts, Ratlings, Nurglings, or Eldar Rangers. Who will all come down before your scout move executes and potentially deny the scout move since it has a 9" away from enemy models restriction.

I plan on screening Russes actually, though I haven't decided on the load outs for the tanks.

I'll have to keep that in mind. My regular opponents tend to use plasma for AT work, so keeping that at arm's length will be helpful.

If my opponent uses those though, I'd imagine that the sentinels might be able to push them back.

If their CC stat line wasn't so garbage.....

I mean even the chainsaw does not help them really.

They are used much better as a mobile HW platform or a scouting heavy flamer platform.

They can be fairly good because of their Scout move, but not great. As mentioned, most infiltrators (if not all of them) drop down before hand and can push back the Sentinel scout.

What really bothers me is the lack of good special weapons. I want to use a Heavy Flamer, but it's half again the cost of the vehicle. If there was a way to pay 0 points for a weapon (something like the "sentinel grenade launcher" or something) then I would buy Sentinels. As it stands, they pay a lot of points for heavy weapons that just aren't that great.
