Should i shelf my 3 squads of 4 autocannon +1 champ havocs, sell them, or play them?

They cost more this edition.

In the Grimdark future of DerpHammer40k, there are only dank memes!

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I don't personally like them:
Heavy Bolters are better at anti-hordes,
Lascannons are better at anti-armour
and Missile launchers are better all rounders.

The only thing I could see it being better against is Necron quantum shielded vehicles.

I wouldn't sell them since you never know when autocannons will become good again but I don't think they're worth playing right now.

I like them, they are good anti elite weapons, but the issue is there are a ton of great anti elite weapons that chaos has so they get overlooked easily.

Having said that, 3 Havoc squads of 5 is a bit much.

Don't miss the fact they went down to 15pts in the latest chapter approved.

The dmg 2 is pretty nice on them i think. Problem is obilts probably outperform them most of the time unless range is a factor

Yea although oblits will probably get a nerfbat come the next chapter approved. They are far and away our best anti tank. They’ll either go down to 3 shots each or they’ll go up in price

No they won't. They have been untouched since the first go around after having been out for months. Oblits are not broken anyway. They come down kill something then die. Lot's of things do this, it's just they were one of the first books so people like to focus on them the most. What will disappear at some point is Endless cacphony, but that won't be for a few more years at least.

Autocannons actually got okay after the price drop in Chapter Approved, and are basically your cheap anti-2 Wound models with a decent Invul or against Quantum Shielding.

And trust me you might want the latter after seeing what might be the new Necron traits...

Sell them and get a fire raptor.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Arn't you full of light, sun shine, and positive energy.

@OP:

I don't think they're in a bad place right now. While missiles are probably better at being flexible, Auto-cannons feel like a variant on the heavy bolter. Not as good against hordes, but better against things like bikes, primaris, and if you get a shot, characters. They're definitely better against 1000Suns. They also have a better chance of wounding light vehicles and do more damage then hvy bolters. So I'd say if your opponents use multiwound infantry, bikes, and things like primaris and rhinos/razorbacks, I'd keep using them. If not, shelf them.

I'd say it comes down to your local meta.

Autocannons are nice for the multiple wounds. I've been focused on lascannons myself, but have been thinking about autocannons for the price and the damage.

A Protoss colony world

A squad of 5 with 4 Autocannons only costs 125 points, so they could be decent choices to help fill out a Brigade detachment of CSM. At 15 points a pop, they are cheaper than Lascannons and possibly more reliable due to more shots and fixed damage (can't roll a 1 for damage like has happened too many times with my lascannons). AC Havocs might be one of those units that is too cheap to bother killing but too deadly to ignore. And like has been mentioned before, they can murder Primaris Marines and bikers and even make Terminators cry (not that anyone plays Terminators competitively).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
