Hi all, I've been looking for a colour scheme for an eternity as I want to paint my Dark Angels in another colour, and purple (Naggaroth Night) interests me very much. I've found the pic below that inspired me, but I'm not sold on the black as secondary colour. So far I just completed the base purple colour for one of my Inceptors, and left the knee pads black, but it looks too dark to me, it looks just unpainted. Now, I haven't highlighted the model yet of course, and maybe this would change my perspective, but the way I see it, purple is already too dark and I need another colour to make it pop out more. I'm thinking about Tau Light Ochre, as I love the colour (I used it in my Mechanicus and Sisters of Silence, pic below), and while it may be nice on the knee pads, I feel that on the shoulder pads (not the rims), on the contrary, it will be too bright. Does anyone know, or have an example, of a colour that would complement my purple well enough ? Pics more than welcome !

Spoiler:

Here's the ideas I've found. Maybe use a more grey-ish black, like the left picture ?

Spoiler:

Here's the Tau Light Ochre on my Sisters of Silence's cloaks. Would it be too much ?

Thanks in advance !

I really like the dark grey idea personally for solely fluffy reasons and the fact that it doesn’t stretch too far from classic DA schemes while still letting the purple make them unique. Other than that, not sure what color might work best.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

The direct compliment of purple is yellow. Add golds.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I agree with lance845, go with the contrast. Yellow squad markings, freehand detailing on robe hems etc would work. It might be overpowering on bolter casings, but hazard lines instead would break it up.

I'd disagree with yellow (seriously, feth the colour wheel). I think if you like the colour scheme, either stick with it, or opt for something simple like a dark creme/beige - which fits in with Dark Angels and complements purple nicely.

Hey little update, I went with Skavenblight Dinge for the knee pads and shoulder pads, and the decorations in Tau Light Ochre. I dared using red for the bolter casings and the sergeant's helmet, and I believe it works well. Here's the result:

That came out well!

I was gonna say use green but I do like the grey as well

Ya know, I think the armor looks fantastic but the yellow lenses together with the red helmet really bugs me out. If you like it, keep it, but I'd at least shade them to not have such a contrast.

I thought about that, but I dislike the combination :/

I know what you mean, but it'll look way better on purple helmets. I didn't want to have the sergeant have different lenses just to fit better with the colours. They'll look better with purple !
